Job description

We are recruiting for a Senior Stories and Content Gathering Specialist to help shape ActionAid’s identity as a leading voice on the rights of women and girls living in poverty across the world.

Could you help shape ActionAid’s identity as a leading voice on the rights of women and girls living in poverty across the world? If so, our Senior Stories and Content Gathering Specialist vacancy may be the job for you.

In this role you will lead on the planning and delivery of content gathering trips to gather stand-out stories, images and video for use by all departments across ActionAid UK. Your understanding of what makes a good story will help us produce compelling, authentic content that engages the UK public and helps ActionAid increase its supporter base.

You will develop relationships with colleagues around the world and be responsible for developing a bank of story leads sourced from multiple countries.  If needed, you will be prepared to lead content gathering crews in the Global South.

To excel in this role, you will need to support staff, freelancers, photographers and videographers to meet the highest safeguarding standards, ensuring that no individual is put at risk through sharing their story or image. You will ensure that every individual who gathers content is actively using ActionAid’s Content Gathering standards, processes and templates.

The successful candidate will have experience of gathering multi-channel content in challenging environments and in the global south. You will have experience in coordinating stakeholders across multiple teams and countries. Expertise in editorial, journalism or visual content production is also a requirement.  Some experience working within or with NGO’s is desirable.

You will have excellent relationship building and communication skills, be a strong team player and have experience of commissioning or working with freelance journalists, story gatherers or visual content specialists. Some experience of supporting or training others on effective story gathering and storytelling would also be desirable.
