Charity Asset Officer

The City of London manages over 11,000 acres of stunning open spaces including 58,000 ancient trees, six Sites of Special Scientific Interest and three National Nature Reserves within and around the M25 including Hampstead Heath, Epping Forest, Burnham Beeches and many others. As well as being managed as the Natural Environment department of the City of London, these spaces also form eight registered charities, which are currently subject to a high profile and wide-ranging review.
The Natural Environment Charity Review aims to ensure that each charity is well managed and governed and achieves maximum impact for its beneficiaries, and to ensure that the City Corporation, in its capacity as charity Trustee, meets its legal duties and adheres to best practice set out by regulatory bodies. A key deliverable of this review is to understand and fully articulate the location, legal considerations and value of the assets of each of those charities, from land and buildings to machinery, artefacts and heritage items and possibly even livestock.
You will be working alongside representatives of each of the sites, and colleagues in assets mapping and finance, teams, as well as legal and charity experts to ensure assets are defined and understood, and that processes for capturing updates and amendments are fully documented on the most appropriate systems. A full understanding of relevant regulatory and best practice processes will be essential, as well as an ability to deliver projects across diverse teams, using pragmatism to investigate and resolve conflicting information sources. You will need to interrogate and understand a number of bespoke and generic software packages as well as legacy records.
Reporting to senior officers as well as Trustees, this is a new, varied and evolving project role on a challenging deadline. Based at Guildhall or an available site office, travel between each of the sites will often be necessary.

The Philanthropy Manager is an exciting role within the Philanthropy & Partnerships team which will identify, cultivate and maximise relationships with Major Donors and Family Foundations through research, networking, events, proposals, and excellent stewardship. Securing philanthropic income against target to further the work of the Canal & River Trust.
Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience
- Identify, cultivate and develop a portfolio of Major Donor and Family Foundation prospects.
- Meet or exceed fundraising targets each year.
- Develop high quality funding proposals, applications and reports for submission to prospects and donors.
- Support the development of the new Major Donor fundraising programme, taking a proactive approach to networking, and cultivating new cold contacts and prospects.
- Support the development and delivery of the Stewardship and Events programme and other Philanthropy processes.
- Depending on experience, may be involved in developing the US fundraising strategy with the support of the Senior Philanthropy Manager, Head of P&P and Director of Fundraising.
- Displaying the Trust values and behaviours at all times.
- Ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promoting inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust’s policies and values.
Experience & Knowledge
- Proven experience of philanthropy fundraising with a track record of initiating new philanthropic relationships.
- Successful track record of meeting or exceeding income targets.
- Experience of identifying and cultivating cold prospects.
- Experience of deepening donor relationships and growing philanthropic giving year on year.
- Thorough knowledge of legal, financial and ethical considerations related to fundraising from Major Donors and Family Foundations.
- Experience of developing high quality proposals and stewardship reports for prospects and donors.
- Experience of effectively using a CRM system for fundraising.
- Experience of fundraising in the Heritage or Environment sector is desirable.

Area Operations Manager
Salary: £38,091 + £5,100 Car Cash Allowance per annum
Working Hours: 37 Hours Monday - Friday, Ocassional Weekend Working.
Location: This is a working from home role, with a reporting base location of Norton, Daventry, NN6 7PE, with regular travel around the southern operational area of the East Midlands region. The area of responsibility covers south of Leicester to Cosgrove, just north of Milton Keynes. The operational area includes iconic sites such as Foxton Locks and Stoke Bruerne and several reservoirs.

We are looking for an Area Operations Manager to cover the southern operational area within the East Midlands regional canal network, working from home with a reporting base of Norton, Daventry.
In this role you will lead a team of 11 colleagues (Team Leader, Volunteering Leaders, Operatives), focusing on day-to-day operational management and maintaining safety management protocols across the Grand Union Canal and Grand Union Leicester Line, including iconic locations such as Foxton Locks and Stoke Bruerne, several canal arms (Market Harborough arm, Welford arm, Northampton arm, Stratford arm), as well as a number of reservoirs.

What We Can Achieve Together:
The Public Funding Manager will play an instrumental role within a dynamic team of professionals working together to deliver public funding needed for highly impactful conservation projects around the world that benefit people, nature and climate goals, including across Africa, Latin America, Asia Pacific and the Caribbean.
The Public Funding Manager is primarily responsible for managing the development and submission of high-quality project proposal applications to European public funding agencies that support TNC’s Shared Conservation Agenda programs in Europe and globally. The successful candidate will work with both conservation delivery and policy teams from around the TNC global network to ensure that funding proposals are crafted in a clear and compelling manner, communicate the technical and scientific nature of TNC’s global programs and meet the requirements of European public funders, including for gender equity and social inclusion, financial rigour, and convincing theories of change. Excellent writing, analytical and research skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate well with diverse teams and deliver through others.
She/he/they will help to develop strategic partnerships with relevant European public funding agencies, conservation organizations, and other partners, to deliver long-lasting results across all TNC’s priority goals, including initiatives that help to: tackle climate change; support sustainable food systems; conserve precious habitats and ecosystems; deliver innovative approaches for financing nature and climate; empower Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities; and ultimately protect the lands and water upon which all life depends.
We’re Looking for You:
We are looking for self-motivated, detail oriented, and highly organized candidates who have experience developing public partnerships, managing public sector funding processes, and working in business development teams.
The successful candidate will serve as team lead or team member for public funding development projects, depending on the proposal. She/he/they therefore must have experience preparing public funding proposals, including drafting technical text, budgets, theories of change, and log frames. A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to grant proposals is necessary. You will have a good understanding of the policy and funding priorities of target public funding agencies/departments, including both technical requirements and broader cross-cutting themes such as gender equity and social inclusion, safeguarding, and Overseas Development Assistance criteria.
You will manage (or establish when needed) critical tracking tools which are essential to building and maintaining strong public sector partnerships, including an information database for proposals, an opportunity pipeline, a calendar of submissions and other deadlines, and an overview of how project teams are delivering to public funders’ delivery milestones. You will also advise colleagues on European public funding opportunities and requirements, conducting public funding research as necessary, to develop and maintain a solid understanding of relevant trends and developments.
You have the ability to prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals. You are able to gather and synthesize information and communicate in a convincing and succinct form.
You enjoy building and facilitating internal networks and cross-team collaboration, coordinating other colleagues’ inputs towards shared end goals. You possess the ability to communicate sensitively with a diverse range of colleagues and partners from different cultures and backgrounds.
You will have the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge about the latest trends in conservation, including opportunities to visit and experience some of our conservation work on the ground. Over time, you will develop and maintain a clear understanding of TNC’s regional and global programs and their direction.
This is one of two Public Funding Manager roles we are currently hiring for – this position focuses on public sector funding opportunities within the UK, France, and from EU institutions, therefore prior experience working in these markets will be advantageous. The accompanying position focuses on public sector funding opportunities within Germany and German-speaking countries, as well as from the Nordic region. From time-to-time, both roles may have the opportunity to support, and gain experience of working towards, public funding opportunities from other countries within Europe.

This is an opportunity for a Finance Officer to step into a small, supportive Finance team and to play a vital part in maintaining our accounting records, administering payments to suppliers, staff expenses and petty cash – and assisting in the general running of the unit.
Managing a high volume accounts payable function, you will take on a range of responsibilities including invoice and expense processing, reconciling supplier statements, processing weekly payment runs and managing the accounts inbox, including dealing with queries.
You’ll work with the other Finance Officer to manage petty cash and cash advances, as well as preparing weekly banking. You will also support the Finance Assistant with credit card return processing and provide general administration support to the Finance function.
