Richmond Carers Centre, a network partner of the Carers Trust, is a registered charity providing information, support, advice and a voice for carers living and caring in London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Helping Carers to Live Well is our organisational aim. We provide a targeted service to young carers, aged 5 – 18 years. Young carers, provide vital emotional and practical support to a family member with a care need including sibling young carers. Their care role can have an impact on their wellbeing, education and social opportunities. We are looking for someone with the skills and ability to offer a coordinated approach in supporting young carers in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

As Young Carers Support Worker you will be part of a small, dedicated team which directly deliver a range of services for young carers, including information and advice, emotional support and mentoring, promoting awareness of young carers and delivering a wide selection of group activities, both term-time and in the school holiday programme. Using all your skills, you will work with the young carers’ team to deliver, review, and continually develop services for young carers to best meet their identified needs.

With your proven knowledge of working with children and young people, families, carers or other vulnerable groups on an individual and/or group basis, you will recognise the importance of being client focused and have a commitment to enhance the lives of young carers and their families, including knowledge and awareness of sibling young carers and vulnerable families. You will be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of young carer’s needs, a wide range of skills in relation to service delivery to support young carers and have a sound understanding of social care provision in both statutory and voluntary sector environments.

You will be self-motivated and positive in your approach to working with both young carers, their families and team members, and have a willingness to embrace our organisational values.  Being innovative and creative, you will identify and implement a range of support mechanisms for young carers, enhancing their wellbeing and supporting them to achieve identified goals.  Strong administrative, time management, IT and organisational skills are essential.  Your ability and willingness to regularly work outside normal working hours is required.

We're the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of waterways across England and Wales, because we believe that life is better by water.  Every role across the Trust plays it's part in transforming our canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better, bringing wellbeing benefits to millions. The role of Mooring Ranger is to support the effective management of moorings and responsible use of the towpath in the Trust’s London & South East region.

This is an exciting time for the Central London Customer Support team.  Recent growth means we have additional new roles in the team, and we are looking to appoint 1 x full time (37 hours p/wk) positions. Within our London region we have an increasing number of boats registered on our waterways - they are busy, thriving places and The Regent's Canal is no exception.  To support boaters who visit the capital, the Regent’s Canal has a number of pre-bookable mooring sites including Paddington Basin, Rembrandt Garden and Islington Eco Zone. As we strive together to ensure cleaner air on the waterways for all, the role of a Mooring Ranger is to support the effective management of the towpath moorings, pre-bookable moorings and Eco Mooring Zone. You will act as the primary point of contact for engagement, providing support and information to boaters, local people and residents.

Locations and coverage:

This is a central London role, focused on the Regent’s canal, from Little Venice to Limehouse, whilst also including frequent visits to the Rivers Lee and Stort in East London

As Mooring Ranger, your formal base will be our Little Venice office located near Paddington, however you will spend most of your time every week out on the towpath along the Regents Canal being  highly visible, available and pro-actively engaging with our boaters and waterway customers specifically. You need to love engaging with others, sharing knowledge and facts, listening and educating and being responsive to enquiries quickly. This is an all-weather, all year around role, so you really need to like being outside! You will be working closely with other members of the Boat Licence Customer Support Team and will report to the Boating & Customer Services Manager. 

This is a customer facing role, interacting all day every day with local residents, our waterway users and visitors, and we are keen to hear from people who can demonstrate an ability to communicate with individuals and groups effectively, and show exceptional ability to engage and care about every interaction you have. The hours are 37 hours per week and will be worked mainly Monday – Friday, however, weekend work will be required from time to time to support with activities such as regional event days.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

About the role

On a day to day basis your role will be to: 

• Establish an authoritative, yet friendly, customer-facing presence on the moorings sites.
• Patrol up to 5 miles a day
• Promote responsible and considerate behaviour amongst all Mooring users.
• Help monitor and manage the use of all moorings along the Regents Canal.
• Liaise with key stakeholders including customers, council officers, local police and Canalside residents.
• Mediate, resolve, record and investigate conflicts between towpath users, boaters and land-based neighbours, record, investigate and respond to complaints relating to moorings, use of the towpath, crime and anti-social behaviour.
• Produce and apply notices and letters to boats, personal property and other materials left on the towpath; and tags and temporary signs at mooring locations.
• Undertake towpath patrols and specific site visits to monitor mooring use, towpath use and Trust assets.
• Use smart-phone or handheld computer (tablet) technology to collect information on boats and to report moorings or towpath issues.
• Work with customers and internal colleagues to help resolve issues arising with paid for pre-bookable moorings (overstaying and payments)
• Manage and report any health and safety issues arising within your area and the surrounding areas.
• Report and where indicated address any defects with canal infrastructure and the Eco Mooring electrical bollard systems.
• Undertake minor works / operational tasks in support of good customer service, e.g. using small/power tools to replace signage, painting bollards and stencils, using burners to apply thermoplastic lettering etc. (training will be provided)
• Lead or assist on moving work boats for operational purposes (training will be provided)
• Support the Trust to implement corporate policies and objectives as required, e.g. delivery of winter mooring scheme, monitoring of boats, assisting with movement and/or removal of boats, towpath survey work, addressing rough sleeping, towpath campaigns etc.
• Maintain effective and efficient records and comply with all relevant reporting procedures.
• Wear body worn video during towpath patrols as and when required.

Additional information:

The role will involve regular working from, and travel to, different offices in the London & South East region, as well as occasional travel outside the region.  Driving license is desirable as travel across the geographical patch and to some remote locations is to be expected.

The post-holder will be required to wear branded uniform (minimum of branded T-shirt/sweatshirt; and branded work trousers and outer jacket as appropriate) when on customer-facing duties, and appropriate safe footwear at all times.

You will provide an advice, information and guidance service to predominantly Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) and East European families in the London Borough of Ealing who have been referred to the All Age Autism Hub for assessment.

You will respond to first enquiries and contribute to the Ealing All The Autism referral hub service development and workings of the Hub as an expert by experience.

You will support group sessions for the Autism Hub as well as any of the Ealing run projects as and when required. You will support the Hub clinical team and Contact Ealing colleagues with administrative support around group sessions and training for families and professionals.

You will assess families’ needs and plan actions with parents’ participation as per their needs. You will encourage parent carers’ empowerment and involvement in the project.

Pete’s Dragons is an award-winning charity which provides post-vention support to those affected by suicide.

As the Charity continues to grow we need to increase the number of Suicide Bereavement Specialists who provide the Charity's post-vention offering at our Plymouth office.

Job Summary

The role of the Suicide Bereavement Specialist is to provide a proactive and timely community-based support to individuals, families, groups and/or communities who have experienced a suicide loss.

The hours for this role are flexible, with 22.5 hours/week being the minimum.

*Please note: Ability to travel is an essential part of this role.

Main duties

Support

Offer a sensitive, compassionate and needs-led service to individuals, families, groups or communities affected or bereaved by suicide.

Offer rapid response (within 48 hours), information and support to individuals, families, groups or communities who have been bereaved by suicide, in their home or other agreed settings, and follow with ongoing practical and emotional support; mainly through non-clinical interventions that promote coping and resilience so our beneficiaries can face and overcome their traumatic bereavement.

Exercise good judgement in assessing each case and establishing the most appropriate steps for ongoing support, signposting or onward referral.

Co-ordinate where necessary, a safeguarding response in line with local practices and services to ensure that an individual is safe and has an organised package of care to ensure they survive their crisis in the most helpful manner for them.

Produce an area-specific suicide bereavement resources pack to include all relevant information on support services and processes following a suicide death.

Develop strong relationships with key agencies and first responders in the area to establish ways to connect bereaved individuals in a timely and helpful manner (e.g. police, emergency services, clergy, child services, coroners, funeral directors).

Contribute to critical incident responses where appropriate and take an active role where possible.

Assist with the early identification of potential suicide connected deaths and liaise with the Pete’s Dragons suicide surveillance team and appropriate stakeholders and relevant agencies, to ensure timely and appropriate coordinated responses.

Undertake collaborative multidisciplinary work to uphold safety and support for the communities of need (e.g. working with school staff, mental health staff, peers, or family members) to ensure they are contained by well-informed communities.

Administration

Work internally with the Senior Management Team, suicide bereavement colleagues, placement counsellors and therapists and in conjunction with external agencies to ensure parity of service across the whole of the County of Devon.

Maintain timely administrative updates on the Pete’s Dragons’ case management system.

Maintain an effective and efficient diary of appointments.

Participate in the implementation and promotion of the Devon Suicide Prevention Implementation Plan and understand how the role of both the Suicide Bereavement Specialist and Pete’s Dragons fits within it.

Contribute to training/awareness raising in suicide bereavement.

Gather and report on all qualitative and quantitative data required in relation to monthly activities and casework.

Adhere to all Pete’s Dragons’ policies and procedures and ensure security and confidentiality of all related data.

The Health IDVA will be employed by FearFree to develop pathways and processes at the Royal Devon University Healthcare (RDUH) NHS Foundation Trust.

The Health IDVA will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service embedded within the hospital to ensure all staff are aware of Domestic Abuse, and equipped to ask the right questions and encourage both patients and staff to engage with the support the Health IDVA will bring to this environment.

The post holder will assist health practitioners to respond more effectively to domestic abuse, particularly those with complex and multiple needs, and will bring specialist knowledge and skills in empowering clients to seek the right support,  and move forward.

The work will include providing specialist knowledge and expertise to other health care practitioners to ensure victims of domestic abuse (and their children) are safeguarded from further harm, to provide a strong partnership approach to service provision.

Priority will be given to medium and high risk cases that are employees and patients of RDUH – those who do not live in Exeter to be sign-posted to specialist support within FearFree Devon (excluding Torbay and Plymouth). 

Key elements of the role include:  

• To work with all victims of abuse (male or female) that have health related needs in the Exeter area.
• Providing priority support to both patients and staff at the hospital.
• Delivering Domestic Abuse training to all staff at the hospital equipping them to recognise all forms of Domestic Abuse and ensuring they are confident in starting those conversations.
• Risk assessing and helping to keep service users safe through safety planning.
• Enabling victims to access and engage with statutory and other services.
• Engaging with and supporting the MARAC process, to ensure that the voice of victims is heard.
• Managing a caseload of medium to  high-risk victims and working proactively to support them and their families.
• Developing and maintaining working relationships with additional services relevant to this field.
• Ensuring services and resources are appropriate and tailored to services users needs.

Keep Britain Tidy has a new opportunity for a Project Manager to manage the Chewing Gum Task Force programme. The Chewing Gum Task Force is a partnership between Defra, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland, Scottish Government and Welsh Government and chewing gum producers including Mars Wrigley and Perfetti Van Melle which aims to clean up historic gum staining from UK high streets and change behaviour so that more people bin their gum.

The Project Manager will lead on overall administration of the scheme and manage the cleansing grant programme for councils, working alongside partner organisation Behaviour Change. In Years 1 and 2 of the scheme, participating councils have seen reductions in gum littering of up to 80% in the first two months. Now in Year 3, we will shortly distribute more than £1.2m funding to councils across the UK.

This is an exciting role within a fast-paced charity. You will have a proven track record in project management, ideally in environmental projects and/or grant schemes. Excellent organisational and record keeping skills are a must, along with the ability to form good working relationships with Chewing Gum Task Force stakeholders.

This new and exciting role is part of CouRAGEus, a unique pan-London project established to provide specialist advocacy, counselling, resilience and prevention programs for black and minoritised young women and girls (YWG) experiencing gendered violence, mental health and/or multiple disadvantage.

You will have experience of working with YWG’s with high-risk presentations, including self-injury and suicidal risk and adept at providing crises support and more in-depth work that cultivates self-protective factors as well as meaningful interventions and strategies that aim to reduce and mitigate risk. 

You will deliver holistic, YWG’s centred, individualised care pathways that are gender informed, trauma focused and aimed at addressing multiple areas of disadvantage including mental health challenges, problematic substance use and homelessness. You will be well versed in advocating on behalf of YWG to multi-agency services to ensure support, protection and choice for the YWG’s you represent. In this role, the Advocate will also develop relationships with local communities and professionals with an aim to raise awareness about sexual violence, improve communities and professionals’ responses as well as to improve access to services for survivors. This work will be carried out through one to one advocacy sessions, workshops, trainings, consultations and other means.

The Margins Project, Union Chapel’s Frontline charity, work with people who are homeless or who are at risk of homelessness and helps address pertinent social justice issues these communities face.

The charity runs three integrated programmes:

• a community drop-in programme providing access to nutritious hot meals, and limited access to showers & laundry services.

• advice and engagement programme providing one-to-one as well as group advice service on benefits and housing, and onward referrals to pertinent services.

• support employment programme offers a paid catering training to 10 people who have had experience of homelessness, substance misuse, mental ill-health, and or imprisonment.

Our range of services are designed to help guests (service users) at varying stages, from having no roof over their head to getting back into employment.

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced adviser to help shape and evolve Margins services. Experiences on the ground at the drop-in programme inform the charity’s strategic direction. The role will involve expanding our partner network to link into pertinent statutory and other charitable organisations that provide services that will help our guests with their housing, substance misuse, recidivism, and mental health challenges.

We work closely with people on an individual case work basis to get guests off the streets, into hostels or temporary accommodation where possible, and work with private and social landlords on a range of issues. We support and represent the people we work with on the phone and in person, including at the council, the doctors, the job centre, and benefits tribunals.

Our drop-ins run on Mondays and Wednesdays 11:00am to 1:00pm where attendance is currently from 65 to 75 guests. The advice and engagement worker works more intensively with smaller numbers of up to 20. The demand for more follow up work and advocacy support has been increasing over the last two years and this in-house advice worker is critical for this demand.

Working collaboratively with the Drop-in Community worker (currently vacant), the head chef, and a small group of dedicated volunteers, you will be responsible for the support of a caseload of guests, some with complex needs, and will undertake key work responsibilities including registering the guests, identifying their housing, benefit and personal needs and conducting all necessary follow ups including occasional advocacy support, where deemed necessary.

Purpose of Job:

• To advise and assist guests (service users) with benefit claims and related issues, e.g., Housing Benefit, DLA, PIP, Income Support, ESA, Universal Credit, and other benefits. In particular, assisting them to claim Housing Benefit and UC to reduce risk of rent arrears.

• To develop significant contact and liaison with comparable housing and benefits advice organisations.

• To encourage guests engage with Margins activities, and where practicable, with the wider Union Chapel activities.

• To develop, facilitate and deliver group advice workshops/training programmes and open discussions forums to engage guests who historically do not engage with Union Chapel.

• To Refer Margins guests to relevant internal and external services.

• In liaison with the head of Margins and the chef to refer potential candidates to Margins’ Supported Employment Programme.

The Advice and Engagement Worker will have an active role in identifying and engaging guests as well as referring potential candidates to the Supported Employment Programme, a programme anticipated to expand beyond its current services in Margins catering.

Responsible For:

• Working with caseload of guests

• With the support of drop-in services community worker (currently vacant) to ensure the smooth running of the drop-in services

• Identifying opportunities to improve services both at a project and organisational level.

• Assist the Head of Margins in ensuring that the Margins Project remains GDPR compliant.

• Working in partnership with statutory and other charities to deliver co-ordinated support to guests.

Key Duties:

• To encourage and assist guests achieve the maximum income from benefits to which they are entitled to, and to refer to relevant support services such as mental health, social services, community support.

• To advise guests on basic budgeting and where applicable to refer to Tenancy Support Officers or outside agencies for more complex help.

• To liaise closely with local authorities, social, and private landlords to try to achieve the best outcome for our guests.

• To identify if the guest is accessioning the right benefit that will support their long-term wellbeing.

• To support newly arrived refugees with their housing and benefit advice needs.

• To actively assist guests with formal appeals against Local Authority, DWP and HMRC decisions regarding benefit entitlement. Representing at Appeal Tribunals.

• To signpost guests to resources that can assist them in finding work.

• When needed, signposting guests to specialist providers in mental health or drug and alcohol support services.

• To Support guests on paying their rent, including providing advice on benefits and debt management.

• To Address breaches of occupancy agreements and develop strategies that would prevent and avoid eviction.

• To assist guests with backdated claims for Benefit by supporting their applications through to completion.

• To ensure all guests’ files are up-to-date and that data is captured on our management system.

• To provide written reports and statistics as and when requested.

• To attend supervision, training, and meetings as and when required.

• To provide advocacy support to guests as and when required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
