Job description

The charity wishes to recruit an Emergency Fund Coordinator to manage applications to the Headway Emergency Fund efficiently and promptly whilst demonstrating appropriate empathy with family members.

  • Hours: Full time (35 hours per week – 9am to 5pm)
  • Salary: circa £22,000 (dependent on experience)
  • Location: London office, SW19 (near Colliers Wood station on the Northern Line)

Headway – the brain injury association is a UK-wide charity set up to provide help and support to people affected by brain injury.

The Headway Emergency Fund helps families and individuals cope with the practical implications of a sudden brain injury. Since the launch of the Fund, we have assisted over 1,500 families facing financial hardship by providing grants in the immediate aftermath of brain injury to support families with travel costs, emergency accommodation and other types of assistance.

The role involves:

  • Processing applications to the Fund.
  • Providing advice and guidance to individuals and recommending funding for successful applications.
  • Inputting and recording data into the Emergency Fund database (Salesforce) on a daily basis to ensure the accuracy of information stored.
  • Conducting a prompt initial review of applications and make clear recommendations for funding.
  • Signposting successful and unsuccessful applicants to alternative sources of support. 
  • Preparing relevant information and reports as required by the Chief Executive and colleagues.

To be considered, you must have:

  • an excellent standard of verbal and written communication
  • excellent attention to detail
  • a good telephone manner
  • a sensitive and empathetic approach whilst dealing with families on the phone
  • a passionate commitment to helping survivors of a brain injury and their families
  • a positive attitude with a ‘can do’ approach
  • the ability to make an immediate and positive impression of Headway

You will be highly organised, efficient and self motivated, taking responsibility for your own workload to ensure that Emergency Fund applications are dealt with in an efficient and sensitive manner. You must be an excellent team-player who will pitch-in when required. Previous experience of using databases would be an advantage.
