The post-holder will ensure the effective functioning of the facilities to provide safe, efficient, secure, legally compliant and environmentally friendly spaces for residents, employees, students and visitors; and will be responsible for delivering high quality and value for money in all aspects of the management, operation and maintenance of the facilities.
The three buildings are:
a 10-storey academic/office building known as the Aga Khan Centre housing teaching, academic research and supporting functions including a major library, together with administrative spaces for the AKF’s charitable activities; and
a student accommodation building known as Victoria Hall comprising 198 en-suite bedrooms arranged over 11 storeys in a mixture of 6 to 8-bed cluster flats and self-contained studios, together with related social and support spaces, this is under the management of a specialist student housing operator, Victoria Hall Management Ltd; and
25 residential units in a private apartment development known as Fenman House. The apartments are leased out on a multi year contract to a serviced apartment operator to generate revenue.
The buildings are all designed to exacting architectural standards and are of high-quality construction. The operation and maintenance of the facilities is expected to be of similarly high standards as befitting long-life, valuable assets. A key feature of the Aga Khan Centre and Victoria Hall is a series of courtyards, gardens and terraces which are a modern-day interpretation inspired by different traditions of Islamic landscape architecture. These buildings also include a total of three commercial/retail units let to external tenants.
The position will require liaison, collaboration with and accountability to a variety of internal stakeholders, including senior management of institutions occupying the buildings (currently AKF (UK), the Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS), the Aga Khan University Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilizations (AKU-ISMC), and other AKDN user groups, academic staff and student representatives.
