Job description

Financial planning, management and reporting

  • Ensure the efficiency, regularity and timeliness of results and deadlines relating to all financial aspects of the property portfolio.

  • Ensure robust financial systems, procedures and controls are in place, properly documented, regularly reviewed and efficiently used.

  • Ensure all property transactions are reflected accurately each month and produce timely management reports, data and analysis.

  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of all property control accounts are completed in a timely manner

  • Develop and maintain a monthly cash flow projection and analysis process

  • Ensure budgets and financial reports relating to the property portfolio are robust and meet requirements.

  • Support the preparation of the AKF (UK) statutory financial statements and supporting working papers.

  • Generate financial analysis, back-up papers and reports and produce effective synthesis for management decision-making, Board submissions and other reporting requirements.


    4.2 Audit, Compliance and Internal Controls

  • Contribute to all audits and statutory compliance in line with UK and AKF/AKDN regulations and compliance requirements

  • Achieve timely, effective and clean internal and external audits.

  • Manage follow up of external audits of AKF (UK) on property related matters.

  • Ensure that AKF UK is up to date on all related financial regulations, rules, procedures, formats, compliance, reporting requirements and the Finance Manual reflects these changes

  • Prepare audit schedules, attend to external auditors for the annual financial audits.

  • Manage and oversee internal financial control policies and procedures related to AKDN managed properties to ensure compliance

  • Manage the section of the AKF (UK) risk register that relates to properties.

  • Ensure that VAT returns and completed and reconciled on a quarterly basis



4.3 Property accounting and Management

  • Lead on the ongoing financial management and operating agreements related to all properties.

  • Lead on the financial aspects of commercial contracts related to all properties.

  • Ensure all invoices to tenants are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Represent the interests of AKF (UK) on the Kings Cross Development project including oversight of the financial accounting for the project.

  • Review the expenditure of all properties monthly to ensure all relevant costs and income are prepaid, accrued or deferred.

  • Lead on the funding model for the Aga Khan Centre shared services, ensuring all funding is received on time, all forecasts are up to date and any issues are raised to key stakeholders.

  • Complete reconciliations between AKF(UK) figures and those provided by property managing agents.


  • CCAB qualified accountant.


  • Post qualification experience in financial accounting, management accounting and reporting.

  • Experience of charity accounting, VAT and knowledge of auditing.

  • Experience of project budgeting and accounting including cost recovery modelling, cash flow management and reporting.

  • Experience of designing and managing financial systems, processes and procedures

  • Advanced hands-on experience using Excel and integrated multi-ledger accounting systems, including the production and adaptation of pivot tables.

  • Experience of managing internal cost recharges and allocations.


  • Good interpersonal, customer care and liaison skills with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • First rate oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and to manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.

  • Ability to synthesise complex operational and financial details for reporting and presentation.

  • Ability to take a robust but tactful position, confident with a positive outlook

  • Ability to problem solve, working with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver results

  • Ability to work in a multi-institution network within a multi-cultural environment

  • Fluent in oral and written English

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel


  • Understanding of and appreciation for ADKN’s goals, values and ethics

  • Knowledge of charity accounting

  • Knowledge of UK tax system, and specifically VAT

  • Knowledge of company legislation
