Job description

Hours:    Between 20 and 37 hours per week – exact hours TBA

Salary:   £21,861.45 per annum, pro rata (AUNN Band E)

Based:   Bradbury House, Nottingham City Centre

Tenure: Fixed term until 28 February 2022

We have an exciting opportunity for a tenacious, compassionate and empathetic individual to provide welfare benefits advice to people aged 18 years and over across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – with an emphasis on benefits applicable to pension-age clients, “mixed-age couples” and their families, as well as some involvement with working-age families.

The successful candidate will focus on maximising income by completing welfare benefit entitlement checks and providing support to make the relevant claims and challenge decisions where applicable. The candidate will lead a team of volunteers to support with various functions.

Candidates should have significant experience of advice provision within the welfare benefits system for working-age and pension-age claimants and their families – including a solid understanding of health benefits, Universal Credit within the new benefits landscape, its interfaces with legacy benefits, benefits applicable to those of pensionable age and the complexities relating to benefits eligibility for “mixed-age couples”.

The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent attention to detail coupled with solid organisational skills, and the ability to accurately maintain appropriate computerised records and produce reports evidencing the achievement of contractual targets by the designated deadlines. The ability to be able to work independently is a must.

As an employee of Age UK Nottingham & Nottinghamshire you will be eligible for our attractive package which includes 24 days' annual leave (Pro Rata), public holidays, flexible working and a 4% employer contribution pension (in line with auto-enrolment rules).
