SE20, London
£30,000 per year
Contract, Full-time
Job description

This is an exciting new role within Alex TLC and will suit an enthusiastic and innovative individual with previous experience in the online retail sector. Flexibility and an eye for goods that will attract optimal value sales will be essential assets.

The impact of Covid-19 has provided an opportunity to redevelop our retail strategy to meet anticipated consumer habits post-lockdown. In this light, the decision has been made to develop an online charity shop, individually branded, in order to sustain pre-lockdown profitability levels, increase sales and long-term growth of this vital income stream.

The position is contracted at an initial three month period but has the potential for longer term or permanent contract dependent on assessment of the initial period.

Alex TLC is working towards completion of the shop platform and initial stocking prior to employment, and the successful candidate will be responsible for taking over management, communications, strategy and upskilling existing staff moving forward.

The role is full time, 35 hours per week and would suit individuals preferrably with their own vehicle. The post will initially be situated at our retail premises in Penge, London, with travel to other Alex TLC premises across south east London required.

JOB DESCRIPTION IN FULL

OVERVIEW

Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC) are a small, independent rare disease charity competing for essential resources within an extremely competitive arena.

Like many other small charities, we have grown organically from an informal support group to the recognised voice for genetic leukodystrophy patients and their families. Formerly ALD Life, an organisation supporting the most prevalent leukodystrophy, in 2019 we expanded our support services to help those with all genetic leukodystrophy, increasing both our growth potential and workload.

Leukodystrophies are a very rare group of inherited disorders, therefore we acknowledge that support will always be limited. We work towards diversity of income through our charity shop business (5 sites), corporate partnership, voluntary income and grant making trusts. With the uncertainty of voluntary income levels for the coming months, Alex TLC is looking to strengthen its most reliable income stream, charity shop profits.

The impact of Covid-19 has provided an opportunity to redevelop our retail strategy to meet anticipated consumer habits post-lockdown. Alex TLC charity shops are well known within the local community as an excellent source of reasonably priced items to suit all incomes, and our shops are situated in the less well to do areas of south-east London. We are keen to reflect this inclusive ethos within the online business and ensure a diverse range of items from costlier collectables to bargain bundles for those on lower wages. An ethos of ecological benefit and reuse should also feature strongly as a key point of any strategy.
