This role is based in the Chief Executive’s Office and will drive forwards the delivery of ARUK’s external engagement around strategic projects. In particular, this role will work on the Early Detection of Neurodegenerative diseases (EDoN) Initiative - an ambitious project spearheaded by Alzheimer’s Research UK to develop an innovative approach to detect diseases like Alzheimer’s years before the symptoms of dementia start. You will ensure our work is purposeful and reaches those people and organisations who will help us to deliver our vision.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

  • Responsible for managing the EDoN Board, working closely with ARUK’s President and the EDoN team to ensure that the Board can effectively oversee progress.
  • Maximise support from EDoN Board Members by using networks, insight and building relationships.
  • Work with the Deputy CEO, Director of Philanthropy and President to establish a new EDoN Fundraising Board and deliver of a high-level programme of activity to deliver their objectives.
  • Advise and lead on specific engagement exercises with the President, CEO and Deputy CEO.
  • Lead on dedicated projects with ARUK President’s office – for example overseas fundraising.
  • Identify priority relationships to support our influencing activity, particularly high value and political audiences.
  • Support teams across ARUK to cultivate key relationships with these audiences.

What we are looking for:

  • Significant experience of working alongside high profile and high influence individuals and be a highly credible figure.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate the case for supporting ARUK, ensuring that stakeholders are fully engaged with ARUK’s vision, mission and goals.
  • Experience working at all levels across complex organisations and be comfortable working in an integrated way across multiple teams.
  • Highly motivated, with ability to work on own initiative, plan and prioritise own workload, meet tight deadlines and work flexibly.
  • experience of establishing and building effective strategic relationships and of leading influencing work that has led to positive change.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Strong ethical standards and a high level of personal integrity.
  • Substantial knowledge of the UK political landscape, and understand the policy issues which affect both Alzheimer’s Research UK and scientific research more broadly.
  • As part of this role supports our international fundraising, willingness to travel when required.
