Communities Coordinator (Dementia Charity)

Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Communities Coordinator Responsibilities:

Do you want to help make Southwark a more dementia-friendly borough?

Dementia Friendly Communities operate across the country to promote a better understanding of the condition, in order to reduce stigma and discrimination and to promote independence for people living with dementia. You can read more about Dementia Friendly Communities here.

Southwark CCG has funded a project to support the development of a Dementia Friendly Community in the Borough. Now in its sixth year, you will be supporting the Dementia Friendly Community group, made up of stakeholders from across the borough, to adapt to the challenges of coronavirus and social distancing. Sustainability will be at the forefront of your approach, so that the group can continue to operate once the funding for the post is withdrawn.

You will receive training to effectively engage with and involve people affected by dementia and your role will include ensuring that the Dementia Friendly Community puts people affected by dementia at the heart of their work.

This is a varied role which includes engagement with people affected by dementia, volunteers, businesses, charities, local councils and community networks.

Supported by our comprehensive learning and development programme, you be working to ensure that Southwark is an accessible and supportive Borough for people affected by dementia for years to come.

Communities Coordinator Requirements:

ou will be a confident communicator, who’s able to influence others to get behind a campaign or idea. You will be well organised, have good time management skills, and will be capable of taking the initiative to manage your day-to-day workload. You will understand the needs of people affected by dementia and will show a willingness to listen and learn from others.

You will understand the motivations and needs of those who volunteer their time for the project and will put sustainability and long-term impact at the heart of everything you do.

The successful candidate will be educated to GCSE level or above, with good interpersonal and communication skills. This post involves travel across the Borough.

Location: Home-Worker with access to Kennington
Contract type: Fixed term, until March 2021
Hours: 21 per week
Salary: £13,420.20 - £13,962 actual per annum (depending on skills and experience) (+ London Allowance of £2,180 if applicable)
