Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Position: Group Coordinator
Location: Home Based - Derbyshire
Contract type: Part Time, Permanent
Hours: 17.5 per week
Salary: £9,982 to £10,385 depending on skills and experience

About the role:

Leading the fight against dementia takes many forms at Alzheimer’s Society. In addition to funding research and raising public awareness, for example, we run some of the most effective local support services in the country. We offer regular support services in a safe and secure environment.

As the Group Coordinator, you will coordinate, organise and facilitate the engaging and safe running of group services aimed to support those affected by dementia and their carers’. This may include Dementia cafés, activity groups, peer support groups and singing for the brain.

The sessions should be well designed and allow participants to engage fully to maximise their enjoyment and the beneficial impact; taking account of individual needs of group attendees when designing group sessions and adjusting the programme as necessary. The role will involve effective service user involvement, co-ordination of service-related volunteers and liaising with relevant statutory and voluntary organisations in the area.

About you:

You will possess an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent as well as having good organisation and facilitation skills combined with excellent communication and listening skills. An understanding of the value of group activities to people living with dementia along with experience in a care or support environment will be essential. We are looking for an individual who has experience in coordinating, organising and facilitating group work. It is desirable that you have experience of coordinating volunteers and liaising with statutory and voluntary agencies.

Due to the nature of this role you will be required to travel independently across all of Derbyshire. As a home-based worker, you will be required to attend a range of meetings at the Nottingham office as and when required. Flexible working across Derbyshire is essential. A DBS disclosure will be required.
