Safeguarding Officer

Position: Safeguarding Officer
Location: Flexible across England, Wales and Northern Ireland
Contract type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 35 per week
Salary: £25,300 - £27,628 actual per annum (depending on skills and experience)

About the role:

Alzheimer’s Society’s Safeguarding and Quality Team are looking for a Safeguarding Officer who will be able to provide expert safeguarding advice, support and quality assurance across the organisation, enabling our people to provide excellent, safe services to people affected by dementia. The Safeguarding and Quality Team are part of the Operations directorate and have overall responsibility for three key areas of work: safeguarding, quality and operational learning.

The role of Safeguarding Officer is a national role, working across the whole Society and reporting directly to the Safeguarding Manager. They will need to engage with colleagues at a local and national level across the Society, as well as with key external stakeholders and partners, to influence compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures, and to drive continual improvement of safeguarding.

The Safeguarding Officer will have responsibility for undertaking activity in relation to some key areas of the team’s work: learning and development, continual improvement, quality assurance, guidance and procedure, engaging and influencing others, and using data to report.

You should have experience of working within a safeguarding framework, an understanding of safeguarding and associated legislation including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, and an ability to relate them to practice.

Experience of working in a safeguarding, health and/or social care organisation will be required. You should also have an understanding of safeguarding within an HR context and be able to demonstrate development of information and learning packages in relation to safeguarding good practice. An ability to use data from different systems to provide information which will help support safeguarding good practice would also be desirable.

You will need to be confident working on your own initiative as well as part of a geographically dispersed team, content to commit to some travel across the country and able use appropriate technology to engage and collaborate with colleagues remotely.

You should also demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of dementia, work in an inclusive way and encourage positivity, optimism and solution-focussed approaches.
