We are looking for a volunteer to support the running of our Singing for the Brain Group in Shurdington Gloucestershire. Confidence to assist the singing leader with activities would also be beneficial. Other duties include setting up the room, welcoming people with dementia and their carers and providing refreshments. Shurdington Singing for the Brain group runs every first and third Wednesday from 1pm to 3:30pm.
This role will suit you if you are...
Knowledgeable or willing to learn about dementia with a commitment to inclusion and an interest in meeting new people. Have an interest in or knowledge of music and movement. You should also be comfortable working in a team to deliver high service standards and willing to follow guidance and procedures. Ability to play an instrument and confident enough to assist with some singing activities would be an advantage.
The impact you'll make...
The Singing for the Brain groups are designed around principles of music therapy and singing, your involvement helps to make people feel less isolated and to experience an enjoyable activity, contributing to their feeling of well being.
This role involves minimal manual handling. You may need to help set up the room for the session, which can include tables. We would be happy to adapt if you would find this aspect of the role difficult. Our Memory cafes last two hours and you will need to be there before and after to help setup and tidy the venue.
You will not be required to give personal care to any of the attendees.
To ensure we are running a supportive and quality service we do ask our volunteers to undertake some short learning modules, such as safeguarding. If you feel you would have difficulty completing them we would be happy to adapt the learning to suit you.
The next steps to volunteering with us is to get in touch. We will ask you to complete a registration form and then arrange for you to pop in for a chat with us or attend a taster session. Once we have discussed if this role is right for you we will then contact your references.
