Alzheimer's Society
£15971 - £16616 per annum
Job description
Support Worker

Dementia devastates lives. By 2021, 1 million people will be living with the condition. But dementia won't win. Until the day we find a cure, Alzheimer's Society will be here for anyone affected by dementia - wherever they are, whatever they're going through. Everything we do is informed and inspired by them.

We are the UK's leading dementia charity. Every day, we work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. We provide expert information, training, and support services to all those who need our help. And we are creating a more dementia-friendly society so people with the condition can live without fear and prejudice.

Please note during the current COVID19 situation all services are being delivered remotely by telephone or video conferencing. Also, candidates are advised that internal applicants subject to potential redeployment may take precedence.

Support Worker Responsibilities:

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our integrated dementia support service covering Leicester City, Leicestershire and our hospitals. As a Dementia Support Worker you will provide essential information, support and guidance to people living with dementia, their families and carers, using a variety of methods, either face-to-face, over the phone or via email. You will be working within a small team, covering Leicester City, Leicestershire County and University Hospitals Leicester.

Support Worker Requirements:

Excellent communication skills are a must. You will also need to possess an NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) and have good IT skills. Your caseload will be varied so we are looking for someone with the right mix of enthusiasm, professionalism and flexibility who is able and willing to work in a variety of settings.

You will be responsible for your own caseload, so your ability to manage your own time effectively will be essential. Leicestershire is a fantastically diverse community and we are constantly reflecting on how we can reach more people affected by dementia who identify as BAME and LGBT+ as well as increase the diversity of our workforce.

Experience of working with BAME and LGBT+ communities, to support us with this work is desirable but not essential. If you have a passion for supporting people affected by dementia and want to be involved in the shaping and delivery of our service, then we would love to hear from you.
