Amal works with many partners to enable creative endeavours that increase understanding of Britain’s Muslim communities among others and foster a stronger sense of belonging in the UK among our Muslim communities.
We are looking for two Community Engagement Coordinators, one based in Birmingham, the other in Bradford, to build trusted relationships with Muslim communities and cultural organisations in these localities, supporting them to work more closely together to increase access to and participation in the arts and culture and encounter across and between communities.

- To ensure that the arts and culture projects Amal supports in Birmingham meet the needs, aspirations and priorities of Muslim communities and are as effective as possible in meeting Amal’s objectives.
- To support the development of greater capacity and confidence amongst partners to work with Muslim communities.
1.To develop and maintain key community relationships in areas of Birmingham with significant Muslim populations.
2.To conduct a rapid mapping exercise (to be built on over time) of the Muslim communities in Birmingham, their perspectives, the barriers they face to participation in arts and culture, and the community organisations in relevant localities.
3.To assist in maintaining and developing partnerships with cultural and other relevant organisations in Birmingham.
4.To support the brokering of relationships between potential partners and communities and the shaping and implementation of the projects they wish to create together.
5.To assist with due diligence on partners.
6.To provide guidance to partners on evaluation.
7.To support the building of the capacity of non-Muslim partners to work with Muslim communities.
8.To facilitate opportunities for networking and collaboration to share good practice.
9.To assist in ensuring that messaging around Amal-supported projects helps to build a community of practice.
10.To assist with Amal’s curatorial capabilities.
11.To help identify potential donors in and around the location.
12.To keep proper records of Amal’s work, relationships and community knowledge in Birmingham and to report regularly to colleagues.
A.Knowledge, skills and experience
a) Community engagement skills and experience from the youth, community or arts environments.
b) Strong understanding of and close connections to the Muslim communities of Birmingham and of the issues affecting their lives including of a diverse range of voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations and spaces.
c) Degree-level education and the analytical skills to conduct and present research.
d) Excellent communications and presentation skills, written and oral.
e) Excellent interpersonal skills including with high-level external contacts.
f) Experience of planning and managing your workload and of working to tight deadlines without close supervision.
g) Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel.
h) Group facilitation skills including in digital formats.
i) A track record of managing close relationships with partners effectively.
j) Experience of connecting with and motivating young people from different backgrounds.

- Employer’s pension contribution of 6% of salary.
