As our founder and CEO approaches retirement, we are seeking someone with a God-led heart, people skills and hands-on leadership to take this charity into its next chapter.
- Heart. The post has a Genuine Occupational Requirement for the holder to be a practicing and committed Christian. Someone who will continue to seek God’s will for this charity through the Holy Spirit, with a heart for saving lives for Christ through the alleviation of poverty. Previous experience of International Development would be ideal but not essential.
- People skills. The post requires someone that can develop and maintain effective personal relationships with a wide range of UK funders and supporters - securing and maintaining income is the most significant part of the role. Hence excellent communication, public speaking and networking skills are needed. Experience of working in Africa or a developing country, with the cultural understanding required, would again be ideal but not essential. A current DBS will be required on appointment.
- Leadership. The post also needs someone with proven leadership and management experience, both for the UK office of two part-time (admin and finance) staff and to mentor the Amigos Uganda team.
Amigos Worldwide is an inspirational Christian charity based in North Devon which has been delivering poverty alleviation projects in Uganda for the past 20 years. Amigos works alongside Ugandans and their churches to bring about sustainable and lasting change through education, vocational training, conservation farming and clean water, reaching over 40,000 people annually.
Embracing integral mission, Amigos is increasingly Ugandan-led, with Kira Farm Development Centre as a hub for vocational training, but also out in the rural communities encouraging local churches to develop and deliver projects. Through this we are seeing communities transformed; able to provide food for their families, educate their children, generate income, access clean water, reduce domestic violence and strengthen faith. Amigos Uganda is some way from being fully independent but that is the ultimate aspiration.
The charity is well-established with a strong support base and an annual income of £400,000. Funded through regular and one-off donations, grants and school trips which provide an opportunity to both raise funds and introduce young people to what God is doing through Amigos.
This is a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference by taking forward our work with churches and others who are committed to transformation in the lives and communities of some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world.
