Job description


To lead the international finance team and enable excellent financial decision making across the Amnesty International global movement.

This includes:

  • leading on the production of insightful global financial reporting & analysis,
  • developing and delivering ambitious training and assurance plans
  • being a strategic business partner to the International Secretariat (IS) fundraising and strategy teams in order to grow the organization impact and income through the management of the income budget and grants to national entities.
  • identifying and leading finance change initiatives as relevant to improve the way finance is delivered across the movement

Ultimately, this role aims for the development of high standard financial practices across the global Amnesty movement, in order to maximise value for money in our work and enable human rights change.



  • To lead and develop the International Finance team (team of four) towards the delivery of team objectives

  • To monitor and report on the organisation's global financial performance and hence improve global decision making, transparency and accountability to internal and external stakeholders

  • To support fundraising stakeholders with the development, implementation and delivery of global income generation strategies

  • To business partner with IS fundraising and strategy teams and provide sound strategic financial advice for the effective management of the IS income budget and IS grant funding mechanisms (operational grants and fundraising grants to national entities)

  • To embed high standard financial practices across the movement via the delivery of capacity building initiatives and assurance reviews

  • To maximise organizational effectiveness through the delivery of global finance projects and improvement initiatives

  • To support national entities as required to develop the goal of one financial Amnesty



  • CCAB qualified or international equivalent
  • Relevant post qualification experience
  • Degree 2:1 or above

Work Experience

  • Team leadership, i.e. setting the team vision, planning, delegation, review, coaching, performance management, team building
  • Experience of delivering change initiatives
  • Strong financial accounting and control experience
  • Excellent English language skills, additional languages desirable
  • Experience in effective presentation and communication to senior management
  • Systems experience:
    • Advanced Excel
    • Sun or Dynamics 365 (desirable)
