Senior Editor - Research and Advocacy

Amnesty International's Research and Advocacy Programme in London is looking for a talented Senior Editor. The role is responsible for the editorial integrity of Amnesty International's flagship output, the Annual Report, scheduled to launch on 25 February 2021, through substantive editing, reviewing text edited by freelancers and providing guidance and support to writers.
This a full-time role with a fixed-term contract of a maximum of six months. The successful candidate will be expected to start as soon as possible in September 2020. The contract will finish at the end of February 2021.
About the role:
You will collaborate with Amnesty International colleagues and freelance editors around the world to ensure that content for the organization's flagship product, the Annual Report, is finalized to the highest editorial standards and meets delivery schedules. You will substantively edit English-language content yourself, review text edited by freelancers and provide guidance and support to writers. The Annual Report provides an overview of the state of the world's human rights and is a powerful advocacy tool. In addition, you will contribute to maintaining and evolving Amnesty International's editorial standards and to building and maintaining systems that facilitate consistent and high editorial standards for research outputs.
You are an accomplished editor, highly skilled and experienced in writing and developing powerful cross-platform communications for a diverse range of global audiences. You have extensive experience and knowledge of delivering flagship publications, including supervision of editing and proof-reading and collaborating with translators, and using this knowledge to successfully deliver editorial products that meet requirements and targets. You have the passion and drive to deliver expertly modulated content to service the cause of human rights and build the Amnesty International brand.
Technically speaking, you're at home using publishing systems and software for digital and print, with an in-depth understanding of version control. You are also skilled at building relationships and advocating and collaborating across a range of cultures and contexts.
