Job Description

There are over 10 million people in the UK living with arthritis and the numbers are set to rise, yet arthritis is too often overlooked and underestimated. We want to change this so that arthritis gets the attention it deserves and more people know how Arthritis Care can help them.

Want to make a positive difference to the lives of young people with arthritis in Wales as part of an exciting new project?

Funded by Children in Need, our service will provide emotional support and peer support opportunities for young people with juvenile arthritis across south, mid and west Wales, helping them to take control of their condition, raise their aspirations and dramatically improve their future life prospects.

Do you have a proven track record in delivering volunteer led youth work projects? We are looking for a dynamic and results focused individual who will embed our new service. You will establish the service aligned to, but independent of, University Hospital of Wales paediatric rheumatology clinical team. Working together you will develop vital information/emotional support services at the main treatment centre and across satellite hospitals via phone and email support as well as delivering issue based workshops, family days, friendship groups, activity weekends and secure social media groups.

A clear and engaging speaker, you will build relationships quicklyboth face to face and over the phone. You will have experience recruiting, training and supporting youth volunteers. There are diverse stake-holders for this service and you will be equally comfortable working with young people with disabilities, parents, volunteers, staff and clinicians. The working week will be varied and you will be adept at switching between multi-disciplinary team meetings in a hospital, parents support group and co-delivering / taking part in activity weekends.

This role is part time (21 hours) and is either office based in Cardiff Bay or home based within reasonable commute of University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

Interviews will be held in Cardiff on Thursday 9 February 2017
