Job Description

Fundraising and Communications Intern (paid role 15-20 hrs/week, 3 months, £10ph)

"Our vision is a world with no new HIV infections, and where those living with HIV and AIDS do so with equality and the support they need."

Avert is pleased to be offering a paid internship for a Fundraising and Communications Intern to support our fundraising through researching prospective funders; to promote increased individual giving to Avert through social media promotion; and to analyse interactions on social media.  Avert provides an excellent internship programme, with previous interns progressing into careers within the international NGO, health and social change sectors. The role would suit someone with an interest in international development issues looking to gain experience in fundraising, communications, and research.

The main responsibilities of the role will be to develop and analyse a list of prospective funding opportunities for Avert and supporting our new social media campaigns to increase individual giving. Other work may include tracking, coding and analysing social media comments on our wider campaigns on HIV and sexual health in Southern Africa.

Avert has been supporting the HIV response since 1986. By sharing knowledge, we empower people to protect themselves and others from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, reduce stigma and improve HIV programmes globally. Our impartial and accurate information reaches thousands of people across the world every day and our partnership work helps to change the lives of those most in need in sub-Saharan Africa. Our website is the only global HIV and AIDS resource of its kind, reaching millions of people in more than 180 countries each year.

A full induction will be given by Avert staff members and there may also be opportunities to attend relevant conferences and training courses for personal development purposes. We offer a great working environment in the seaside city of Brighton and a friendly team atmosphere.

Salary: £10 per hour

Hours of work: 15 - 20 hours per week (there is some flexibility depending on the circumstances of the candidate).

Location: Avert, Brighton

Contract: 3 months, with potential to extend to 6 months.

Please download the attached job description and person specification PDF for full details of the role.

Applications for this role should be made by sending a CV and cover letter addressing the criteria in the person specification.

Closing date: Midnight Sunday 9th December, with planned interview dates of 17th and 18th December.
