Job description

The Baptist Union Support Services team are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Church Historic Buildings Support Officer (CHBSO) to provide close support to the Listed Buildings Advisory Committee of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and to assist Baptist congregations throughout England realise the full potential of their historic church buildings for mission and wider community engagement.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable interest in England’s historic places of worship and a good understanding of historic building legislation and best conservation practice.  You will  have the ability to work flexibly and effectively through a large volume of varied casework often to tight timescales.

The CHBSO will also liaise closely with Historic England’s ‘Heritage At Risk’ Team to ensure a considered and proactive approach to the Baptist church buildings most in need of this.

This role is currently funded in partnership with Historic England for 1 year, initially, with plans to seek additional funding for a further 2 years and is an exciting opportunity to engage with churches their congregations and professional advisors to ensure that historic church buildings continue to develop and play a significant role in their local communities.
