Chief Executive's Office

Barnardo's has a long and rich history spanning over 150 years. We are the UK's largest and oldest national children's charity and we exist to transform the lives of vulnerable children, young people and families. We operate over 1,000 services in local communities; have more than 700 shops and 8,000 employees. Last year we worked with around 300,000 children, young people and carers and our total income was in excess of £300m.

This is an exciting time to join Barnardo's as we are now in the fourth year of our ambitious ten-year Corporate Strategy, and driving forward our internal evolution, designed to ensure that Barnardo's is in the best shape possible to continue improving the lives of vulnerable children and young people, whilst also changing the system on their behalf.

This pivotal role works directly with the Chief Executive Officer and contributes significantly to the achieve of their objectives and the delivery of the charity's Corporate Strategy, with key responsibility for the following:

* To provide confidential, high quality, efficient and pro-active support and advice to maximise effectiveness across all interactions, both internally and externally across, a diverse range of stakeholders and trustees.
* To manage delegated responsibility for a number of issues on behalf of the Chief of Staff - Strategic Advisor to the CEO, representing them where required.
* To research, plan and progress significant issues on behalf of the Chief of Staff - Strategic Advisor and the Chief Executive.
* To manage and oversee the work of the Chief Executive, ensuring the highest quality of administrative support, managing the Personal Assistants within the CEO office to ensure that a high quality, effective and appropriate administrative support is received.
* To effectively manage the time and workload of the Chief Executive Officer by proactively identifying, undertaking, and where appropriate, delegating administrative tasks; undertaking ad-hoc project work; and overseeing and delegating tasks to other members of the administration team.

The role is based from Barnardo's Head office in Barkingside, however there will be a requirement to travel to Barnardo's Office in London Euston 2 or 3 times a week.

We are seeking a high-calibre, motivated and emotionally intelligent individual who is graduate qualified. Ideally, you will have experience of working at a senior Executive Assistant/PA or equivalent level in a complex environment, having supported a CEO but as a minimum, you will need a keen interest in developing your leadership skills and strategic insight into the strategic running of a charity. You will need experience of effectively working under pressure, prioritising and delivering, and have the ability to negotiate and influence without authority. Excellent communication skills, successfully planning and managing projects, and the ability to lead a team of administration professionals to ensure a high standard internal service is essential.
