The Digital and Technology team (also known as #futurebarnardos) is part of the Strategy & Performance group. As a service designer, you will design the end-to-end journey of a service. This helps a user complete their goal and Barnardo's achieve its expected outcome. Your work may involve the creation of, or change to, transactions, products and content across both digital and offline channels provided by different parts of the charity.

Key responsibilities:

You will:

* Develop new or iterated services to meet user needs, based on evidence gathered from a variety of existing and new sources, including primary research, existing evidence and organisational goals
* Be trusted to make good decisions and recognise when to ask for further guidance and support
* Focus relentlessly on the user need, and ensure every aspect of product development is user-centric
* Identify where separate interactions with children's social care should act as one service that meet that need

Key activities:

You will:

* Work on defined problem statements and design challenges throughout the product lifecycle, with particular responsibility for the early stages (discovery and alpha)
* Work in an autonomous fashion, empowered to make key decisions, as part of a multidisciplinary product team including users
* Analyse failure within services and identify root causes for that failure
* Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improvement within an existing service
* Understand the existing supporting system of a service and design targeted improvements to that system to accommodate the new service - both digital and process base
* Collaborate on designs with analysts and developers
* Welcome the constructive criticism of their work and be able to constructively review the work of others
* Contribute to the development of design concepts
* Interpret evidence-based research and incorporate this into your work
* Represent Barnardo's internally and externally (eg conferences, meetups, blogs, interviews etc.)

This role can be based in any of Barnardo's regional offices, as outlined in the job description, with regular travel to our digital hub in central London.
