Job description
The service works with children with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) in differing primary and secondary schools around Surrey and, although is part of Barnardo's, sits within the larger framework of Surrey Emotional Health and Wellbeing Services. The children do not need to have a formal diagnosis to access this service and we will welcome any child identified by the school as having ADHD related behaviour.

The service seeks to celebrate the behaviour of children with ADHD, by acknowledging who they are and recognising their impulsivity, creativity and energy as positive attributes rather than seeing to calm them or control them. The service is aimed at enabling these children to celebrate their difference through delivering groupwork programmes and activities to either small groups of children or (whilst we are still under Covid restrictions) on an individual basis.

We are seeking a Supervising Practitioner who is enthusiastic and excited about being part of a new service which will have profound impact on the lives of children and young people to make a significant difference to their school experience. The role is to plan for, lead and electronically record group work and one to one work with children. An Assistant Project Worker will work alongside the post holder to help set up rooms for the activities for both in school and after school groups and provide a positive and affirming experience for children to increase their self-confidence and self-esteem.

* Good recording skills
* Knowledge of or experience of ADHD would be helpful, but not essential as we can ensure training is given.

An understanding of safeguarding and the need to safeguard children is crucial for this role and will require an enhanced DBS check.

As the service is delivered in schools across Surrey it is essential that applicants have a full driving licence and access to their own car (travel expenses to be paid).

The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently but effectively as part of a dynamic team. Whilst experience of managing and/or supervising staff in a previous or current role is desirable, previous experience of supporting team members in a new role is welcomed.

Barnardo's offers a comprehensive training package in respect of managing people. Good communication skills are essential and a sound working knowledge/experience of recording to IT systems is a requirement to role. Experience of using ZOOM/other virtual meeting platforms is also a requirement to the role.

The successful applicant will deputise in the absence of the Team Manager and have a strategic overview of the service. Candidates need to be able to detail their experience of working with children and families. In their application candidates are asked to detail good time management skills as well as effective organisational skills.
