About our organisation:

Bell House is an educational charity that offers support outside the mainstream school curriculum, lifelong learning, short courses, exhibitions, talks and musical events. The house is a centre for educational needs such as dyslexia support.

Purpose of role

Bell House is launching a weekly, online technical support session called Tech Together. The aim of the sessions is to provide easy-to-follow and informal support to people who are not confident using their devices. This feels particularly important during the current Covid-19 pandemic where technology is vital to stay connected with the rest of the world. Each week we would like to offer support on different topics such as online shopping, video calling or using the internet safely.

The role of the Tech Together workshop co-leader is to host these sessions, alongside the Bell House Project Manager, and share a confident knowledge of the aforementioned topics. You do not have to be an IT expert but someone who feels comfortable with technology and is a clear and patient communicator!

The role may appeal to a furloughed worker wanting to use their time to make a difference.

  • Must have good audio and webcam equipment set up at home

  • Must have sufficient internet speed at home

Main activities/tasks:

  • Co-leading online Zoom workshops on various technical topics such as online shopping and video calling

  • Working alongside the Bell House Project Manager to deliver these workshops

  • Joining the TechTogether team meetings when you are able to

  • Help monitor and evaluate engagement

  • Signposting service users to different resources that could further support them

Who and what are we looking for?

  • Welcoming and personable attitude

  • Experience with explaining and teaching someone else a new skill

  • Confident IT Skills (specifically with hand-held devices)

  • Great communicator and collaborator

  • Strong organisational skills

  • Knowledge or interest in technology

What the volunteer would gain from the volunteering opportunity:

  • Exciting opportunity to join a new and dynamic team

  • If you are furloughed, this will provide the opportunity to use this time to help others

  • Build confidence in leading a workshop

  • Experience teaching different social groups

  • Gain experience working with an innovative and progressive charity

  • Receive relevant training and support from the Bell House team

  • Join a social hub of friendly and committed volunteers

  • Share knowledge that may be second nature to you but could make a big difference to someone else!

If you’re interested please send your CV with a little bit about yourself, contact details and your location by applying via the Charity Job website.
