Manchester, Greater Manchester (On-site)
£30,542 - £32,234 per year
Permanent, Full-time
Job description

BHA Has been providing its services, support,  and guidance, to Black and Minority Ethnic, disadvantaged, and other marginalised communities for the last 30 years. The charity offers a range of services delivered at local, regional, and national levels in the areas of HIV and sexual health, cancer, TB, mental health, community health education, and engaging and involving communities in health and social care decision making. The BHA has developed a reputation as a key provider and stakeholder in the development of health policy, initiatives, and services to the Black communities in Greater Manchester and the northern region. Since day one, BHA has fought the corner of communities and minority groups who considered themselves a ‘poor relation’ in terms of the level of services and standard of health care they received.

The vision of this organisation is to become a society with equitable health and social care systems and services for Black and Minority Ethnic, disadvantaged, and other marginalised communities, to reduce inequalities and improve health and well-being. BHA for Equality exists to work with and for African, Caribbean, south, and south east Asian communities, refugees, and people seeking asylum. It was formed due to the concern about the impact of HIV and Aids on the Black community in Manchester.

BME groups have higher rates of myeloma and stomach cancer, and males from the black ethnic group have a much higher rate of prostate cancer, with one in four Black men being diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Black men with cancer report poorer experiences of NHS care. They are also more likely to die from prostate cancer compared to other ethnicities. A staggering 80% of all local Tuberculosis cases are in non–UK born BME communities. With BHA’s determined vision and its unique and unwavering commitment to supporting individuals and communities towards equality in health, they strive to see a day where Black and Minority Ethnic, disadvantaged and other marginalised communities have the same access to health and social care services.
