Publishing Operations Manager

The Biochemical Society is one of the largest learned societies in the UK biosciences, dedicated to advancing the molecular biosciences that underpin and explain the essential processes of life.
We are seeking a hands-on experienced Publishing Operations Manager to take charge of content workflows at Portland Press, harnessing the use of technology in transforming scientific communication.
The successful candidate will work proactively to lead end-to-end publishing operations and processes, ensuring top-quality products and outputs, with a relentless commitment to first-class author and customer service, and operational excellence across all publications. The position has management responsibility for the production team, and will also be responsible for management of the ongoing relationships with suppliers, technology partners and freelancers to ensure efficient end-to-end content workflows and processes. Harnessing emerging technology and driving innovations and efficiencies is a key aspect of the role.
Reporting to the Publisher, this role needs to deliver at pace, and presents an opportunity to drive growth and be part of the Biochemical Society at a time when we, as a learned society publisher, are transitioning publishing models towards open access.
Applicants need to demonstrate a passion for STM publishing and the use of technology to improve scientific communication. There should be proven experience in all areas of STM journal production, with a strong emphasis on electronic publication process (with proven knowledge of XML and experience of working with article metadata).
