Job description

We are seeking an exceptional candidate with great interpersonal skills and expereince within the field of peer support to join our small but growing team.  Two new roles  have been created to expand our Peer Support Service and enable more people affected by bipolar to access our services receiving much needed support.  

Purpose:  The Senior Peer Support Officer role will work within Bipolar UK’s Peer Support Services team and needs to be located in the North of England.

Working closely with two other Senior Peer Support Officers, for Groups and Digital, this role will lead and facilitate aspects of service delivery and support for our cohort of remote volunteers and national network of Peer Support Groups across Northern England, Wales and Northern Ireland. 
 

Background:  Bipolar UK’s mission is that everyone affected by bipolar can live well and achieve their potential. Peer support is at the core of our work. Our services are ambitious and wide-reaching, and we currently provide peer support in several ways, including our in-person Peer Support Groups, Email and Call Back Service, Work and Learning, website and social media. Alongside these areas we plan to ensure we are providing and scoping new and accessible digital services.

Bipolar is a severe mental illness characterised by extreme highs and depressive lows. Having the condition increases the risk of suicide by 20 times. Bipolar UK is the national charity for people affected by the condition. Our mission is to empower everyone affected by bipolar to live well and achieve their potential. This includes close friends and family.

This is an exciting time to join Bipolar UK as it is a rapidly expanding charity with big plans to grow its income and impact over the next five years. We are looking for an ambitious and talented individual who will maximise the opportunity presented by the Bipolar Commission and key strategic relationships. This will involve reopening and growing our network of in-person Peer Support groups, maximising the impact of our expanding digital resources and generating income and support from key partnerships and major donors.
