Job description

Job Purpose:

  • To deliver an intensive support service to families who are part of the Think Family programme and who have complex needs including domestic violence, drug and alcohol use and safeguarding concerns. Working with a small caseload of families for 5-8 hours per week you will be required to work with other agencies to assess need and coordinate a family support intervention with families in their home or the community 

Duties and Responsibilities

Development & Support Work:

 To work within Birmingham’s Family CAF process to assess whole family need liaising with other relevant partners as appropriate

 To hold a caseload of families who are part of the Think Family programme and work with them to secure positive engagement

 To conduct whole family assessment and planning and take on the role of Lead Professional for the family

 To engage partner agencies in the development and delivery of an agreed integrated support plan relevant to identified needs

 To provide direct and intensive interventions to support families to make required and sustainable changes

 To maintain appropriate records and documentation in line with BSWA’s agreed case file standards and ensure progress and achievement of outcomes is effectively and appropriately evidenced

 To promote children, young people and women’s participation in all aspects of service delivery and development

 To work effectively with partners from a range of children and adults services in order to meet needs and improve outcomes for children, young people and their families who are in need of additional support

 To identify and attend training and conferences relevant to the post in agreement with your line manager

 To keep up to date with current legislative changes for dissemination within the staff team and for use when working with women and children around their rights

Administration:

 To work within BSWA’s administrative and financial systems.

 To ensure that Health and Safety records are kept up to date.

 To produce monthly reports for your line manager.

 To monitor and evaluate the service via various methods including feedback from service users and produce statistical information.

Communication:

 To ensure that all staff team members are aware of any matters that are relevant to the welfare and security of the refuges, staff, volunteers and service users by: a) maintaining BSWA communication records b) following safety procedures c) attending team and other meetings d) carrying out risk assessments in conjunction with your line manager  To attend in-house training

 To attend support and supervision sessions with your line manager

 To develop professional working relationships internally and with external agencies

 Feedback relevant issues from external meetings/training to the staff and management teams as appropriate

Training:

 To identify and attend training relevant to the post in agreement with your line manager

 To work alongside colleagues to organise in-house training and information sessions on a range of issues for service users

 To raise awareness of the impact of domestic violence on women and children and of the BSWA services

General:

 To maintain the confidentiality of the women, young people and children using the service

 To maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the organisation

 To offer an equal service to all women and children regardless of age, class, culture, language, race, religion and sexual orientation, adhering to BSWA’s framework for equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice

 To ensure the efficient use of resources at all times

 To maintain an awareness of the issues surrounding domestic violence on a national and local level with a particular reference to those related to working with children and young people

 To work within BSWA policies and procedures and demonstrate a commitment to the values and ethos of BSWA

 To undertake any other duties required by BSWA which may arise incidentally, develop or be assigned commensurate with the post

 To participate in the development and annual appraisal of a personal individual development plan with the line manager
