Bookmark – we want every child to read

They are at risk of becoming one of 7 million UK adults who struggle with basic reading every day.The past year has been worse: the pandemic has had a huge impact on children, particularly the most disadvantaged in our communities. School closures left a vast number of children in primary school behind in their basic literacy and there is an overwhelming need for additional reading support in schools across the country. At Bookmark, we want every child to read. We give children the reading skills and confidence they need for a fair chance in life, through our flexible volunteer-led programme.Over the next three years, we have ambitious plans to reach more children at risk of falling behind in their reading in new locations across the UK.
