About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a high-performing campaigns and public affairs team and take forward key projects that will make a real difference to the lives of people affected by breast cancer. Working with colleagues across the Policy, Evidence and Influencing team and the Communications and Influencing Directorate the role will have a strong focus on delivering our high-profile and hard-hitting secondary breast cancer campaign, which aims to improve treatment and support for those affected by the incurable disease. In this role, you will also develop and establish a local campaigning function for the organisation to enable our campaigns to have even more impact and reach, as well as lead the charity’s engagement with the new UK government and parliament.
Whether you are currently working in a charity, for a health organisation, at a public affairs agency or otherwise, you will need to be able to hit the ground running and, as such, have significant experience of working in a public affairs and/or policy environment, including designing and delivery of influencing strategies. You will have experience in delivering significant change through campaigns and public affairs activity and be able to work in partnership with other organisations. Skilled in the art of networking, you will build and manage external relationships and influence key decision-makers. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, including confidence and experience in working with senior colleagues and have the ability to deal sensitively with patients and the public along with leading, motivating and supporting a small team.
We’re excited to announce that in April 2019, Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now united to create one charity for everyone affected by breast cancer. From research to care, our new charity has people affected by the disease at its heart – providing support for today and hope for the future. United, we can carry out even more world-class research, provide even more life-changing support and campaign even more effectively for better services and care.
By bringing together our passion, energy, expertise, funds and networks, we will make greater progress in more effective ways to make sure that, by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live and receive the support they need to live well.
