Use your experience to supervise and support volunteer mentors for people who are homeless or at risk of offending.  This is a flexible job suitable for someone with home care responsibilities or returning to work.

Bridging the Gap Mentoring is a small charity recruiting, training and supporting volunteer mentors for people who are at risk of homelessness, offending or addiction  The service has been running for several years and has an established set of procedures and policies meeting national accreditation standards.

You will support several volunteer mentors.

  • phone mentors each week and meet them once a month (usually online)
  • offer advice and encouragement and ensure mentors follow our policies.
  • If there are problems, you may need to get more involved to ensure the welfare of client and mentor.
  • You will also have the opportunity to do other work training mentors and meeting clients.

This is flexible work. You will be offered the opportunity to supervise selected mentoring partnerships which you can either accept or refuse depending on how much work you would like to do.  You will be part of a small team of supervisors doing similar work and will meet with other supervisors to share experience and develop best practice. There may be more than one post available. If we cannot offer you work immediately, we may offer you the opportunity of being included on a list for work in the future.

Much of the work can be done by phone or through Zoom.  There will be some meetings in person as Covid restrictions ease.

You need to have 2 years experience (full-time equivalent) of  working in a support role (or in a profession) providing support to people who are at risk of offending, homelessness or addiction problems.  Our work is based in Islington and surrounding boroughs so it will help if you can travel to Islington occasionally (perhaps once a month)..

Please apply through Charity Jobs or through our website.  You should be able to access the Job Application pack through Charity Jobs.  To apply please send your C.V. and a covering letter describing how you meet the person specification.

We may be able to employ two supervisors immediately.  Even if we are not able to offer you work immediately, we may offer you the opportunity of being included on a list for future vacancies.
