About the role
As the UK’s largest charity retailer, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) fashion shops and home stores raise millions to help the BHF fund life saving research. The BHF also has online outlets, with its eBay shop set to sell over 330,000 high value and unusual items this year. Since launching its Depop account, the BHF has become one of the top sellers on the site and has a five-star rating.
In this role you will help support the charity’s Retail arm, helping create and deliver external communications to inspire people to support the BHF in generating income through its network of shops.
You’ll lead media campaigns that will emotionally and creatively communicate the need for people to shop, donate, and volunteer at one of the BHF’s 700+ shops, stores and online outlets– all of which help fund life saving research.
Working closely with the retail team and other teams, you’ll build effective working relationships that will help maximise our opportunities and help generate income.
Activities will range from national campaigns, reactive communications for the business which involves responding to a diverse range of stories that transpire throughout our shops and to be a spokesperson for BHF who can brief and advise senior leadership.
You’ll support PR Manager with day-to-day administration, liaising with internal and external stakeholders and will ensure all our systems are up to date. You’ll will also be part of the BHF’s busy press office – spotting opportunities and responding to daily media enquiries, you'll participate in our out of hour’s service on a rotational shift basis.
Please note whilst this role will be based in London, the BHF will be following a blended approach between home and office working. This will allow us to unlock our best work for our cause, blending the best of home and office working.
Whilst this role is advertise as "Senior PR Officer" internally it will be known as "Senior Media Officer".
The ideal candidate will be a self starter and bring enthusiasm, drive and creativity to develop stand-out PR campaigns.
You’ll have knowledge of digital communications tools and tactics, updating and maintaining web pages, blogger engagement, social networks, search and digital marketing and have experience of managing, developing and implementing effective media relations campaigns.
You will have a good working knowledge of the media landscape and an understanding of what works well in press to achieve coverage. You’ll be an exceptional communicator able to deliver accurate and engaging communications, and you will able to act as an authority for to our senior leadership.
You’ll have a flair for consumer PR and running integrated PR campaigns with excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, you will have experience of managing a range of tasks and projects with competing deadlines, being able to champion PR to colleagues/partners with little or no communications experience.
