Welcome to the British Red Cross Workshop - Tutor Volunteer

Location: Dorset

We are looking for people available weekdays and/or weekends

Commitment: To deliver around 8 one-day courses per year and tutor meetings / development days as required.

About the role

Can you help welcome new staff and volunteers to the British Red Cross?

We are looking for volunteer tutors to deliver our one day 'Welcome to the Red Cross' programme.

Staff and volunteers attend this interactive and inspiring programme which includes sessions on the British Red Cross and our services, the Red Cross Red Crescent movement, our principles and values, our emblem and information about getting started in their new role.

We are looking for people who are passionate about the principles, value and work of the British Red Cross and the wider Movement; and supporting new volunteers in becoming engaged with the British Red Cross. Facilitation skills are an advantage, although we can provide training to give you the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver this programme.

About the team

You will be part of a regional group of tutors who report to a volunteer manager. You will have regular networking opportunities where you can explore the development of key skills such as presenting, instructing, facilitating and fostering a positive learning environment in which people feel comfortable to pursue and attain their learning objectives. Your volunteer manager will share accountability with you for your initial induction and ongoing learning and development.

About the person

  • You need to have good interpersonal, diplomacy, communication and teamwork skills although full training can be given for any technical requirements. We keep the beneficiary at the heart of what we do, working to understand their needs and the difference we make. Also someone who is:
  • Able to communicate clearly in a group setting to an audience, using both verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Able to provide constructive developmental feedback to participants when necessary.
  • Able to be flexible to the needs of learners and ensure all training is delivered in line with the fundamental principles of the Red Cross.
  • Experienced in a British Red Cross role - this is helpful but not essential; our tutors come from a wide range of backgrounds, however all have a common desire to help new recruits and volunteers to learn about the movement and in particular the work of the British Red Cross
  • Willing to develop and maintain their own competence through self study, networking, workshops and feedback from your volunteer manager and peers.
  • Willing to uphold the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and adhering to the Society's Equal Opportunities Policy.

Tasks Included in this Role:

  • Delivering the programme using agreed standards and formats through a mix of presentations, activities, group work and discussions.
  • Supporting participants in reaching the aims and objectives of the course by ensuring all are able to learn and to contribute with their knowledge and experience.
  • Evaluating participants on their suitability to become a volunteer and feedback to the People and Learning team when required.
  • Liaising with the volunteer manager regarding delivery of the course.

We value the energy and enthusiasm that young people bring to this role. To volunteer for this role you must be aged 15+. An individual risk assessment, parental consent and safeguarding considerations will be required for those aged 15 - 17.
