British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) exists to promote excellence in small animal practice through education and science. The Association was founded in 1957 as a professional body to serve veterinary surgeons that treat companion animals and now has over 5,500 members. The majority of their members work in practice and represent over a third of the working veterinary surgeons in the UK.

About the role:
Working for a national Association, this is a fantastic opportunity to become a Non-Executive Director and Trustee of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) based near Gloucester. This professional membership association hosts the largest annual small animal veterinary conference in Europe, delivers a full programme of education courses, produces a range of publications and other resources that contribute to the continuing professional development of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses.
This role will be a member of the BSAVA board as a director and trustee with particular responsibility for oversight of Association governance and strategy. The Association is also a registered Charity.
We are looking for an individual with extensive professional and commercial experience with proven executive leadership ability. Evidence of leading compliance within an organisation and first rate project management skills are imperative.
Demonstrated success as a Board member in the Not For Profit sector is preferable.
The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills and a natural affinity and diplomacy for liaising with diverse stakeholders, particularly within a Membership organisation. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and a passion for improving the Association are vital.
We are particularly looking for a robust individual prepared to constructively challenge at all levels with a track record in building credibility in delivering the strategic aims of an organisation.
An understanding of the veterinary profession is desirable. An aspiration to understand the Association and the sector it supports by building knowledge and credibility is also key.
Remuneration – Directors Fees
Time commitment 24 days per annum.
This appointment is subject to annual review and re-appointment will be considered every three years for a maximum of two consecutive terms.
