Aldeburgh, Suffolk (On-site)
Permanent, Full-time
Job description

Britten Pears Arts (BPA) is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based in Suffolk.  Much of our wide-ranging work is only possible with the support of our large pool of volunteers

BPA emerged from the determination of composer Benjamin Britten and his partner, singer Peter Pears, to ensure that everyone could enjoy and experience music.  Britten Pears Arts aims to continue their legacy to develop talent and engage with communities.   Our team of 100+ volunteers currently volunteer in a very broad range of areas including ushering and front of house duties for concerts and events, archive work, gardening, community engagement, the invigilation of exhibitions, stewarding and guided tours at The Red House.

This new role has been created to bring together a coherent strategy for the provision of volunteers across the whole organisation.  A key objective for this role will be to reach and attract new volunteers so that our volunteer pool also reflects the diversity of our audiences and visitors. We are also keen to explore how volunteering opportunities can also work for, and with, communities such as finding opportunities for young people to develop their skills etc.

To be considered for this role you will have recent experience of managing volunteers, gained in an arts, heritage or charitable organisation. You will have recruited and managed a large pool of volunteers and will have a clear vision for reaching and engaging a diverse range of volunteers.

In particular we are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working with volunteers and has excellent people management skills
  • Has a clear understanding of the relationship between volunteers and the organisation.
  • Is a confident user of IT (Microsoft – Outlook, Word, Excel and Sharepoint)
  • Can manage time effectively to meet deadlines and multi-task.
  • Has clear communication skills – verbal and written.

We are an equal opportunities employer and believe that diversity strengthens and enriches us. We positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates of all ages and from all backgrounds, in particular from ethnic minority groups and disabled candidates who are currently under-represented at Britten Pears Arts.

Although this role offers some scope to work from home, it is based in Suffolk and is mainly office-based.
