Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

Community Fundraising is at the heart of the Trust’s Fundraising Development Strategy and with ongoing investment to grow our supporter database and accelerate income generation, it's an exciting time to join our Fundraising Team.

In this role you will be proactive in engaging local communities and maintaining relationships with supporters, volunteers, schools and other community groups in your region to maximise income, actively seeking new income generation opportunities.

You will be the external face of the Trust for these audiences, engaging with them and supporting them to arrange their fundraising activities, assisting with all enquires with the aim to develop long term, committed relationships through relationship building and bespoke stewardship.

This role sits within the Individual Giving and Legacy team reporting to the Fundraising Development Manager and working closely with the wider Fundraising teams to enhance supporter journeys and grow our donors base.

Key Accountabilities.

Support the implementation of the Community Fundraising Strategy by promoting community campaigns and events to engage and recruit new supporters in your region.

Support the Community Fundraising Team Leader in setting the Community Fundraising Budgets and take responsibility for the delivery of the agreed income and expenditure budgets for your area in line with departmental yearly goals.

Work closely with the key regional colleagues, such as Community Engagement Managers, Youth Event Coordinator, Community Roots Engagement Coordinators and Corporate Engagement Partners to maximise local opportunities with schools, religious groups and other community groups, helping to identify new relationships ensuring effective management and stewardship of those supporters in line with regional priorities.

Identify, engage and develop long term, committed relationships with supporters in your region to grow income, ensuring they are exposed to and given the opportunity to support multiple income streams through effective cross selling of marketing, corporate and events initiatives.       

Recruit and manage a network of fundraising volunteers, working with the Trust Volunteer Services, to promote contactless units in your region with the objective of raising both consistent sources of income and awareness of the Trust work in their area.

Support the launch of our Mass Participation events helping to deliver a seamlessly journey to keep participants engaged at all times - before, during and after the event.

Work with the Digital Fundraising officer, the Supporter Journey Manager and third-party platforms (ie Just Giving) to deliver high quality stewardship to maximise supporter engagement and repeat events.

Handle all requests for support materials ensure all fundraising collateral and merchandise is carefully delivered, managed and stock control processes are adhered to by Supporters and Volunteers.

Deliver campaign performance reports on all community fundraising activities ensuring that accurate and up to date financial and supporter records are maintained and compliant with GDPR regulations at all times.

Keep abreast of new income generation opportunities in your operating area and maintain excellent knowledge of community fundraising practices and campaigns in the sector, including competitor analysis, to ensure Canal and River Trust is the charity of choice in your operating region.

Experience & Skills: Practical / Technical Knowledge

  • Good level of education with passes to GCSE level or equivalent, including English Language and Maths
  • 2 years minimum community fundraising experience
  • 1 year minimum experience of managing and/or supervising Volunteers
  • Proven experience of supporting, advising and retaining Supporters
  • Proven experience of managing and delivering a fundraising income target
  • Knowledge of volunteering practices and charity sector initiatives

Planning, Organising and integrating (managerial) Knowledge

  • The knowledge required for integrating and managing activities and functions.
  • Excellent understanding of Fundraising regulation and statutory data compliance,
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety laws and best practice around working with volunteers
  • Proven budget management skills
  • Knowledge of Fundraising databases and customer relationship management programs
  • Experience of working within a fundraising team

Communicating and Influencing skills

  • The skills needed to communicate with and influence individuals and / or groups within and outside the organisation.
  • You understand what motivates people to support a Charity
  • Excellent presentation skills to all ranges and sizes of audiences
  • Proven ability to build influential relationships at all levels
  • Persuasive and adaptable written and oral communication skills
