Job Description

Care International (CI) is seeking an interim Communications Officer to support the CI Global Communications team under a short-term contract and to be responsible for updating and maintaining CI’s website and digital platforms.  This can be based in London or Geneva.

CARE International is a global confederation of fourteen independent non-profit, non-sectarian humanitarian organisations working together to fight poverty and provide assistance in humanitarian emergencies. CI works, each year, in more than 80 countries around the world, implementing long-programmes to fight poverty, responding to humanitarian emergencies and advocating for policy change to improve the lives of the poorest people, reaching more than 122 million people.

Reporting to the Head of Global Communication, the Communications Officer will use existing communications tools and platforms to support with basic design and layout of content, basic video editing, digital planning, calendar updates and website and Twitter management.

Areas of responsibility include managing all CI Secretariat’s digital platforms including website and social media; updating emergency and humanitarian factsheets; basic video-editing and (info)graphic creation for social media content; maintaining and managing the CARE Knowledge Management resource (Minerva) and a calendar of communication activities; leading knowledge management migration of all global communication tools and materials onto a new SharePoint platform; and finally providing support to the Head of Global Communications as required.

Ideally candidates will have a university degree in communications, journalism, graphic design or related field and must have a minimum of 3-5 years of working experience, preferably with some understanding of NGO structures and development issues. You will also need to be proficient with the standard suite of communications tools used in multimedia outreach, design, calendars, video and photo-editing, have knowledge of HTML, website content management systems and SharePoint and have excellent written and spoken communications skills.
