Job description


Carers Trust South East Wales (CTSEW) is the largest organisation for unpaid carers in Wales and with over 180 staff and a £3.2m turnover, we are also one of the largest charities in Wales. We provide a wide range of statutory and non-statutory services for carers and those they provide care for, including wellbeing, respite, replacement care and homecare services.


The Senior Trusts, Foundations and Lottery Officer will work on growing and diversifying funding for CTSEW. The role will focus on researching, identifying and applying to trusts, foundations, Lottery and other grants to boost CTSEW’s work supporting unpaid carers and work with the senior marketing and communications manager to develop a new fundraising strategy for CTSEW to increase funds coming into the organisation.

With the economy contracting following the coronavirus pandemic and our dependence on statutory funding becoming more of a risk, the time is right for us to focus on building funds that we obtain through fundraised activities so that we can support more unpaid carers. Our growth over the past few years has given us a fantastic base across South East Wales and provides enormous potential to diversify our income through fundraising. The Senior Trusts, Foundations and Lottery Officer will support the following:

· To support the development, implementation and delivery of CTSEW’s Fundraising Strategy, diversifying funding for the organisation

· To implement robust systems that will support fundraising through trusts and foundations for the charity

· To increase awareness of unpaid carers and CTSEW through fundraising activities

· Working with colleagues to design and develop project ideas for new and existing work programmes that are attractive to funders

· To work in line with CTSEW’s organisational aims and objectives

· To assist with a number of ongoing projects within the organisation, collating information and liaising with appropriate members of staff



· Work with the senior marketing and communications manager to create and maintain a comprehensive Trusts, Foundations, Lottery and grants income plan

· Continually research and identify appropriate Trusts, Foundations, Lottery and other grant giving organisations for CTSEW

· Submit compelling applications to Trusts, Foundations, Lottery and grants based on a clear understanding of CTSEW’s services and funding needs

· Maintain effective relationships with funders to support income targets

· Maintain effective relationships with CTSEW colleagues to identify areas of need that can be supported through Trust and Foundation income and monitor how grants are being spent and to facilitate the gathering of information for updates and reports

· Ensure all relevant information relating to Trusts, Foundations, Lottery and grant applications is recorded promptly and accurately onto CTSEW’s CRM systems

· Monitor performance of fundraising activity and report regularly to different audiences including our board of trustees

· To be an active member of CTSEW, contributing ideas and opinions to support organisational development

· Share and support fundraising knowledge across our teams and services

· Support the organisation in wider funding applications where appropriate

· Support marketing across the organisation where appropriate

Person Specification

Post of: Senior Trusts, Foundations and Lottery Officer (E = Essential, D = Desirable)

Experience required

· (D) Demonstrable experience of working within the charitable sector

· (E) Proven track record of delivering fundraising success by different means

(e.g. trusts and foundations, individual donors, legacies etc.)

· (E) Experience of working towards achieving fundraising strategy aims and objectives

· (D) An operational understanding of CRM fundraising platforms

· (E) Forging and managing external partnerships

· (D) Experience of developing and implementing strategic plans

· (D) Experience of supporting tender applications

Skills and abilities required

· (E) Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

· (E) Strong interpersonal skills with ability to support and motivate professional staff

· (E) Tenacity in seeking results and negotiation skills

· (E) Ability to make decisions and take the initiative, managing a complex and varied workload

· (E) Self-servicing, with a proven ability to work as part of a team and independently

· (E) Excellent IT Skills, with experience using Microsoft packages and navigating the internet

· (E) Creative, flexible character and a generator of new ideas.

· (E) Ability to promote and develop positive working relationships with voluntary and statutory agencies to meet carers needs and represent CTSEW in a professional way with external agencies and funders

· (D) Welsh verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications required

· (E) A good standard of general education (minimum of 5 GCSE’s grade A-C), with a commitment to continual professional development

· (D) Membership of the Chartered Institute of Professional Fundraising

· (E) Professional qualification in Fundraising

Knowledge required

· (E) Knowledge of fundraising best practice

· (E) A knowledge of and a commitment to equal opportunities

· (E) Knowledge of donors and organisations supporting fundraising (e.g. Trusts & Foundations, IoF)

· (E) An understanding of the needs of carers

· (E) An understanding of the social care sector, funding arrangement and legislation

· (D) Understanding of issues affecting carers

· (D) Knowledge of fundraising trends in Wales

Other requirements

· (E) Willing to be flexible with their hours of work and willing to work outside of normal office hours when required

· (E) Use of own car and ability to travel, if required
