Catbytes is a Community Interest Company (CIC) based in, and serving the borough of Lewisham.

Our purpose is to support the local community with computer and internet related issues. Many people find the world of modern technology bewildering and we want to build a bridge between them and the digital world.

Our two main activities are:

  • Digital drop ins - centres where people can learn more about how to use their devices.

Responsibilities:

Can you help members of the local community including elderly people and digitally excluded individuals to improve their IT knowledge learn how to use their tablets, laptops or mobile phones? If so, we really need your help!

The role of a Digital Support Buddy is to help a client do things like the following:

· Search the internet

· Set up an email account

· Complete online forms

· Set up a Skype account

· Set up social media accounts

· Complete online job searches

· Look up local job opportunities and resources

· Do a Google Search

· Find a location Google Maps

· Look up a timetable to get public transport

Digital drop-in sessions involve sitting with a client in a choice of locations and helping them navigate their device(s), either a laptop, tablet, iPad or smartphone, often accompanied by a cup of tea/coffee/water/juice and some cakes/biscuits.

Requirements:

We are not looking for IT experts, but people who are sociable, outgoing, friendly, patient and can sit with elderly people and help them learn how to use tablets, laptops or mobile phones.

You’ll need to be reliable and should enjoy meeting new people. No previous experience necessary.

We need committed and reliable volunteers who are able to commit to 2 hours per week..
