Senior Advocacy & Government Relations Officer
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Advocacy & Government Relations Officer to join our team. You will join us working 35 hours per week, on a permanent basis and will be based from home with travel across the UK when required. The role will focus on the charity’s activities at Westminster and ideally you will be based within an hour and a half of London. In return you will receive a salary of up to £39,772.80 per annum plus excellent benefits.
Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity with a nationwide network of adoption and homing centres, volunteer-run branches and charity shops. During 2021, we helped 137,000 cats and kittens. That's the equivalent of around 375 cats a day!
You will be part of the small but dynamic Advocacy & Government Relations team which leads the charities work influencing politicians and other decision makers whose policies and practices that affect cat welfare across the UK. The team carries out an extensive stakeholder engagement programme across the UK and runs public facing digital national and regional advocacy campaigns, all while working closely with teams from across the organisation.
Responsibilities of our Senior Advocacy & Government Relations Officer:
To lead an effective programme of advocacy work across the UK, with a focus on
Westminster, working closely with Central and Local Governments, as well as other key
external and internal stakeholders as required. You will be in a senior role within the team with people management responsibilities, delivering our strategic programme of advocacy activities. This role will achieve realistic but challenging advocacy targets and develop and implement effective plans to achieve them.
What we’re looking for in our Senior Advocacy & Government Relations Officer:
- Experience of advocacy, public affairs or influencing work
- Experience of policy work and research
- Comprehensive understanding of Westminster government and structure/processes Knowledge of UK media
- Experience of line management of volunteer management
- Experience of effective use of social media within the context of advocacy/campaign
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
- Experience of working with volunteers/public supporters
- Full clean manual driving license
