Job description

The Charity is going through an exciting period of growth having recently opened a new state-of-the-art facility for multi-disciplinary therapy programmes for childhood disability and research of neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism, within the grounds of Keele University. This is a fantastic and exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and fast moving Charity at a time when it will attract national and international attention. 

As Head of Volunteer Development you will lead the Volunteer Team to influence and shape the volunteering strategic plan for all departments. You will build our volunteer resource through innovative opportunities and deepening our community connections. The role will be instrumental in developing the profile of volunteers throughout the Charity.

You will monitor, challenge and evolve the training and support offered to volunteers to establish a culture of continual improvement and a focus on the increasing capability of the volunteer team. You will be focussed on attracting high quality, skilled individuals to volunteer roles within the Charity that align with our requirements.

High level relationship skills are critical to this role, partnering with senior managers, line managers and other stakeholders. You will create innovative new recruitment partnerships and build relationships with medical and non-medical voluntary organisations to promote volunteering opportunities across the organisation.

You must have solid experience of leading and growing a volunteering function in an active fundraising environment, with the fundraising team as key stakeholders.  You will have expertise in using data and analytics to evaluate and demonstrate the value that volunteering brings.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement an effective Volunteer Strategy and Volunteer Journey with accompanying Action Plan to recruit and retain volunteers with the right skills at the right time to match the needs of the organisation
  • Along with the Volunteer Engagement Manager, oversee the on-boarding and training programme, continually evolving and adapting
  • Be integral to the development of new funding opportunities and the submission of tenders from a volunteer perspective
  • Interact at Board level, including monthly presentations at the Executive Board Meeting highlighting progress against the Volunteer Strategy
  • Promote and market Caudwell Children volunteer opportunities nationally, reaching wider audiences, demonstrating the use of different marketing media
  • Monitor and evaluate all aspects of volunteer activity to ensure effectiveness
  • Lead and inspire a positive culture of volunteering
  • Establish a cohesive infrastructure of motivated volunteers
  • Oversee the continuous evaluation of the programmes and services delivered by the Charity and provide volunteers with the skills required as necessary
  • Liaise with Department to establish volunteer support requirements
  • Increase volunteer diversity to meet strategy targets
  • Attend nationwide volunteer recruitment events throughout the UK, particularly in Staffordshire and Cheshire
  • Comply with safer recruitment policies ensuring all volunteers are referenced and DBS checked
  • Ensure the volunteer journey is implemented with additional incentive features and programmes added
  • Deal with any complaints or issues involving volunteers in the appropriate manner and take action where necessary
  • Oversee the development and implementation of volunteer policies, procedures and standards of volunteer service across the organisation ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Ensure the Volunteer Department is compliant with ISO requirements. 
  • Ensure that all volunteer services are delivered successfully and within agreed budgets and strategy. 
  • Manage the maintenance of accurate and up to date volunteer records.
  • Produce regular reports on volunteer activity and participation.
  • Manage, supervise and mentor the Volunteer Team.
  • Maintain the current corporate volunteer opportunities available to local and national organisations
  • Work alongside organisations to increase corporate volunteering and match funded opportunities
  • Maintain the current placement offer for student volunteers recognising the contribution to a sustainable volunteer strategy
