Reporting to: Director of Fundraising

Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum, depending on experience
Job type: Permanent, full-time (35h). Flexible working considered.
Location: Flexible/working from home with 2 days a week in our London base. Occasional travel to our main office in Farnborough may be required.

We are currently looking for that special someone to have an influential role in growing fundraising from trust and foundations. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced trust fundraiser to take on this new role in a fast-paced environment.

You will develop and implement a strategy for trust fundraising with the Director of Fundraising adhering to agreed targets and plans as well as our Ethical Fundraising Policy and our donor promise. You will build relationships with a portfolio of potential and strategically important trusts funders and engage with them through phone calls, meetings, written correspondence and events. The Trusts and Foundations Manager will also maintain and deliver a schedule of applications and reports to grant makers, including prospecting for new funders with an emphasis on fundraising from larger trusts and securing multi year gifts.

At the charity, the Fundraising and Communications Team works collaboratively with the Programmes team to share ideas, knowledge, skills and experience to create a supportive culture. In the role you will work closely with the Programmes Team to create engaging proposals, however experience of writing bids for institutional funders is not required as this is managed by the Programmes Team.

You will have strong relationship-building skills and be a highly effective communicator. You will enjoy the challenge of a busy team, using your excellent organisational skills to manage a large portfolio of trusts and foundations. Your initiative and self-motivation is especially important while working remotely as part of our geographically disbursed team in the Africa and the UK.

We are looking for someone with proven experience and a recent track record of success in raising funds with Trusts and Foundations (100,000+, including multi-year funding) and you will be keen to use what you have learnt to expand your own knowledge in growing the small but established portfolio at Chance for Childhood.

We work with African visionary community leaders to implement locally-relevant yet far-reaching projects that create lasting change within the justice, education and social protection sectors. Purpose of the role

The Trusts and Foundations Manager will:

  • Build upon partnerships with, and secure new income from, an existing pipeline of trust and foundations.
  • Research and build relationships with new funders who we can approach for single and multi year funding.
  • Deliver high-quality cultivation and stewardship of all trusts and foundations to produce robust and measurable growth over time.
  • Provide a first class experience to all our donors and supporters.

Main duties and responsibilities

General

  1. Actively contribute to implementing our new integrated fundraising strategy and yearly budgets in line with our 2019-2021 strategic priorities.
  2. Work with the wider team to develop compelling cases for support by having a strong understanding of our work, current objectives and future plans in order to match donor interests effectively and see opportunities for further support.
  3. Monitor and analyse key performance indicators to evaluate specific fundraising projects and ensure a steady increase of income year on year.
  4. Keep up to date with any changes in legislation, regulatory procedures, best practice and industry standards in relation to fundraising.

Trusts and Foundations

  1. Maintain and deliver a schedule of applications and reporting to grant makers, including prospecting for new funders, working collaboratively with the Director of Fundraising and Programme Team.
  2. Research, develop and maintain a pipeline of new relationships to secure fundraising opportunities with a specific focus on multi year funding.
  3. Write tailored, inspirational applications and project reports addressing grant-making priorities or requirements as specified.
  4. Develop and maintain reporting and application systems and coordinate information across the organisation.
  5. Liaise closely with the Programmes Team to plan and develop the strongest possible proposals and build relationships.
  6. Ensure high-quality, ongoing management and engagement of existing trusts/foundations, including coordinating all commitments for these funders across the charity.
  7. Develop and implement personalised cultivation and stewardship plans for specific funders to build and manage relationships with them.
  8. Work with the Director of Fundraising to identify and cultivate links between major donors and trusts and foundations.

Other duties

  1. Support the Director of Fundraising in the organisation of cultivation events.
  2. Actively contribute to the team’s work plans and internal staff meetings.
  3. Attend networking groups and external events to make contacts and represent Chance for Childhood.
  4. Support on other fundraising initiatives as required such as our online matched-giving initiatives and during busy fundraising campaigns.
  5. Any other duties commensurate with the level of the post, as may be required.

Person specification

Essential

  • Excellent written communication skills with the experience of writing successful fundraising applications to foundations and charitable trusts and securing five and six figure grants.
  • Experience of developing income from trusts, foundations and grant-giving bodies.
  • Experience of developing and implementing a trust fundraising programme, including acquisition, retention and development.
  • Demonstrable ability to develop relationships with grant-making bodies.
  • Strong track record of meeting and exceeding both financial and non–financial targets.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the experience of writing and editing inspiring and accurate proposals and reports independently.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to engage and inspire people at all levels of seniority and all walks of life, whilst understanding the needs and knowledge of the target audience.
  • Excellent relationship-building and donor care skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage a varied and complex workload, prioritising competing demands.
  • Desire to gain results both as part of a multi-disciplinary team and on own initiative.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Self-reliant and confident IT user including internet, email, databases, spreadsheets, desktop publishing and Windows package.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of international development sector.
  • Experience of undertaking high-quality research to identify prospective funders.
  • Good budgeting skills.
  • Knowledge of institutional funders.
  • Experience of using databases as an integral part of your work.
