Membership Co-ordinator

Barnwood is an independent charitable Trust. We get millions of pounds of funding out into the county every year. But money is only part of the story.

We join with the people, communities and organisations in Gloucestershire’s disability and mental health movement – driving forward change so that disabled people and people with mental health conditions have choice of opportunities, access their rights, and are included where they live.

We are looking for a new Membership Co-ordinator to join the team to coordinate our engagement scheme ‘Barnwood Circle’.  Barnwood Circle is a network of disabled people, people with mental health conditions, and carers, who inform and shape our work by sharing experiences and expertise.

Our Membership Co-ordinator is a key contact for members. We are looking for someone who can provide excellent administration and coordination of Circle meetups and projects. The Membership Co-ordinator helps us make our communication accessible and relevant to members, and enables members to participate by ensuring access requirements are met.

Specialist experience relevant to disability and mental health challenges, including safeguarding, specialist communications or cultural awareness is welcomed for this role.

We want to diversify our team to better reflect the work and communities we support– this means we would particularly welcome applications from people who:

Contract Terms:

• This role is permanent, full-time hours (37.5hrs per week)

Summary of Key Duties:

Coordination of engagement scheme

1. Develop and maintain a project-based overview of Barnwood Circle activity.

2. Support participation from disabled people and people with mental health conditions with the widest possible range of lived experiences. 

3. Manage registration of new members and Barnwood’s database.

4. Provide administration of Barnwood Circle member agreements, payments and expenses claims for taking part in projects with the Barnwood team.

5. Collate feedback and support evaluation of Barnwood Circle activity.

Communications and Events

· Collaborate with marketing and communications colleagues to ensure that communications and channels used to engage disabled people and people with mental health conditions are effective, accessible, and relevant.

· Coordinate the creation of communications products which engage a wide range of disabled people and people with mental health conditions, commissioning specialist resources where necessary. 

· Support teams across the Trust to engage meaningfully with Barnwood Circle members and create communications to resource this.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

· Demonstrable knowledge of project planning tools and techniques.

· Proven success in engaging those with complex needs and/or those who are routinely marginalised.

  Role Purpose 
 
The Home from Hospital project in Newcastle is funded by the Northeast and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board. Preventing readmissions to hospital is crucial for the NHS. Re-admissions cost the NHS over £2 billion per year, and no-one wants to be in hospital when they can be recovering safely and comfortably at home. The project was developed to help enable older people to thrive back at home, and in the community, while at the same time supporting the NHS.
 
We recruit, train, support and coordinate volunteers, who provide a “little bit of help” to people who may be socially isolated, have health issues, or don’t have many people around them. Volunteers provide social, emotional or practical support, completing short-term tasks. This includes things like helping with shopping, collecting medical prescriptions, in person or telephone check in’s, driving someone to an appointment, helping with paperwork, ensuring the home is safe and secure, and more.

We are looking for a talented, dynamic, and professional Engagement Manager to join our team in Newcastle.The right candidate would be someone with excellent knowledge of “best practice” in Volunteer Management and with experience of supporting older people.

About the Investment team

The Investment team is responsible for selecting portfolio partners, managing our charity investments and supporting our portfolio partners to improve and scale their impact. 

The Investment team also leads the Impetus Leadership Academy, a leadership development programme to support talent from ethnic minority backgrounds in the UK youth sector to progress into senior leadership roles. 

The team is made up of 18 people, including former teachers, charity chief executives, charity impact leads, management consultants, social investment portfolio managers and impact consultants.   

The team is led by a Portfolio Director who sits on the Senior Management Team. The Portfolio Director has 5 direct reports: a Deputy Portfolio Director, three Sector Leads (who lead our work in school engagement, school attainment and employment sectors) and an Impact Lead. Sector Leads line manage 6 Investment Directors between them. Investment Directors line manage Investment Managers (currently 7). Investment Directors and Investment Managers tend to primarily focus on a sector but might have mixed portfolios, depending on need, experience and interest. 

The Investment team has a good track record of role progression. All four Leads and a number of our Investment Directors were promoted from within the team.

Finding high potential charities and non-profit partners for our portfolio 

• Identifying potential charitable organisations for investment.
• Leading and delivering in-depth due diligence process within the scope of a grant round, to assess and build partnership foundations with potential partners – covering leadership and governance, and their impact, scale, and partnership potential.
• Modelling from first contact of origination, our approach to engaged and trust-based investment management support.
• Developing and presenting high quality investment propositions to our Investment Committee.

Managing partnerships with portfolio partners​

• ​Managing relationships with partner Chairs and CEOs. 
• Agreeing Service Funding Agreements, including appropriate annual investment milestones to allow for a clear assessment of re-investment potential at end of phase. 
• Regularly monitoring and assessing partner progress / risks against milestones and making evidence-based recommendations on progression or exit to Leads, Portfolio Director and the Investment Committee.
• Escalating key risks on performance, leadership and safeguarding.   
• Conducting annual partnership reviews with Sector Leads and partner CEOs.
• Working with Impetus finance colleagues to ensure timely distribution of grant payments, in line with Service Funding Agreements.

• clarify theory of change

• Collaborating with the Impetus Philanthropy team to support the development of additional funding opportunities for portfolio partners, enhancing their ability to deliver impact at scale.
• Effectively leveraging the support of investment managers to advance the objectives developed for each portfolio partner that is managed by an Investment Director.

Support to Impetus

• Developing expertise about “what works” in the sector through cultivation and use of expert input and engagement as well as investigation into key research and evaluative literature.
• Contributing insights and learning from portfolio work to inform Impetus’ strategy, model and delivery, providing evidence based recommendations to senior colleagues

To develop and grow the NCJAA network and develop and maintain effective working relationships with partners and stakeholders.

Job summary

The coordinator is responsible for overseeing all work and development of the NCJAA and sits within Clinks’ National Influencing & Networks directorate . The coordinator will work with a range of different stakeholders, including the NCJAA Advisory Group and the wider membership, to improve policy and practice in relation to arts-based work with people in prison, on probation and in the community. This includes maintaining and strengthening the NCJAA as the leading national network for arts organisations and individuals that work in the criminal justice system.

Reports to: Clinks Director of National Influencing & Networks

1. Duties and key responsibilities

Strategy and planning

· Work closely with Clinks colleagues and the NCJAA network to develop and deliver the NCJAA annual work plan which include a range of activities that will raise the profile and promote the work of the arts sector in the CJS, including events, publications, training, mentoring, research and networking opportunities

· Work closely with Clinks colleagues, the NCJAA advisory group, chair and wider network to help inform and shape the future direction of the NCJAA and its strategic goals, paying particular attention to its role, sustainability and emerging opportunities

· Coordinate the quarterly arts forum in collaboration with the Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) arts seat holder and government representatives

NCJAA project management & delivery

· Provide leadership for the NCJAA in the arts and CJS sectors

· Deliver the projects set out in the NCJAA’s annual workplan

· Coordinate the functioning of the advisory group of the NCJAA, including its quarterly meetings, minutes and election

· Work with Clinks colleagues responsible for finance to maintain financial oversight of the overall NCJAA budget and all relevant project budgets to support the NCJAA work to progress effectively

The VCS Alliance
