Based in the stunning town of Ambleside, at the head of Lake Windermere in the beautiful Lake District, this role is an uncommon opportunity for a fundraiser who also has the skills to lead an organisation.
Cumbria Development Education Centre (CDEC) are a small but beautiful organisation committed to establishing Cumbria as a beacon of global citizenship. Since 1984 they have been working to inspire schools and local communities in Cumbria to engage with, understand and take responsibility for the world in which we all live and contribute to making it a fair and sustainable place.
They do this by working in partnership to provide opportunities and activities that encourage critical thinking and global awareness. CDEC’s vision has always been for young people to have the skills and confidence to be able to face the challenges of today, to develop understanding of and respect for other people and places and to make informed choices that have a positive impact on society, the environment and the world around them.
CDEC is recognised as the leading provider of global learning training in Cumbria, with a nationwide reputation for excellence. Since 2008 they have actively engaged with over 240 schools (more than 68% of all schools in Cumbria). CDEC develops and delivers innovative CPD and events for teachers, offers resource boxes for loan to member schools and implements funded projects which enable schools to access high-quality global education.
As Director of the charity, you will be responsible to the Chair of the Board of Trustees and will lead the organisation; ensuring its strategic development, financial sustainability and high profile. You’ll also manage the charity’s small staff team. As well as the Director there are currently a Communications Officer, a Finance/Administration Officer and two Global Education Officers. The Board is very supportive and willing and work to support the Director in strategic planning and many other ways. There is a huge amount of good will and genuine enthusiasm for the organisation.
As the staff recently said:
"It’s a great place to work! Everyone who works at CDEC loves it! Everyone is treated with compassion and respect, work is flexible to meet people’s emotional and personal needs. That’s not to say that the work isn’t given importance; it’s challenging but rewarding work. It’s a relaxed environment, there is a high level of trust, along with high levels of professional standards".
