We are seeking a dedicated, ambitious and experienced Senior Manager to join our Donor Relations team which is part of the External Relations Department. This is an exciting chance to lead on some of our most valuable philanthropic relationships.

The Donor Relations Team looks after the institute’s relationships with individual supporters and advocates. Donations from individuals are a crucial piece in the institute’s income mix, generating over £1m of unrestricted income per annum. In light of bold new fundraising ambitions as we enter our second century, the institute is increasingly reliant on this source of revenue. The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of the team and make a substantial contribution to the team’s income target through donor retention, upsells and new business.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Take a leading role in helping the team achieve increased income targets from individual donors.
  • Generate sizeable unrestricted revenue through effective stewardship of an existing portfolio of donors, and generating new income from deepening relationships with them.
  • Manage and build a strong pipeline of individual major donor prospects.
  • Ensure the consistent application of the team's new business processes.
  • Build new income streams for the institute, for instance promoting legacies.
  • Develop engagement strategies and proposals presenting a compelling case for support aimed at securing unrestricted gifts and capital donations.
  • Working alongside the Head of Donor Relations, provide support to the Director and Director of External Relations in undertaking tasks and managing the institute’s most generous donors.
  • Support the Head of Donor Relations, and work collaboratively with the Events Teams on the delivery of a programme of events and a portfolio of benefits designed to inform, recognise and socialise Major Donors to Chatham House.

Requirements

Personal Specification

  • Significant experience working in the Major Donor field.
  • Proven track record of providing outstanding care to donors, evidenced by long-term and deepening support.
  • A high-level understanding of the strategies, processes and demands of major donor new business, engagement and stewardship.
  • Interest in and good knowledge of global affairs.
  • Knowledge of the international major donor landscape as well as the broader philanthropic marketplace.
  • Experience in people-management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to form strong working relationships at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Computer-literate with experience of CRM databases and Microsoft Office products.

Salary: circa £42,000 (Depending on experience)

Contract: Full time (35 hours per week), Permanent.

Location: London.
