Job description

There is not one ocean or continent on Earth that is free from a toxic cocktail of many different synthetic chemicals. We know our bodies also contain these chemicals and that they impact on our health. CHEM Trust is a global charity registered in the UK, working to ensure that these harmful chemicals are replaced with safer alternatives. Our work particularly focuses on EU level regulation, though we also work in the UK and in partnership with groups in the USA and other regions.

Skills and Experience

We are seeking to appoint 3 new Trustees to join our Board who can bring experience and skills in either:

  • Fundraising, particularly issue specific funding from Foundations and Trusts; Fundraising networks and regulation;
  • Strategic Campaigning;
  • Experience of UK and/or EU policymaking;
  • Finance experience, particularly UK Charity regulation.

Also you will need to have:

  • Great communication and leadership skills;
  • Analytical and evaluation skills;
  • Experience of strategy development and/or business management;
  • A team approach to problem solving.

Knowledge of the effect of pollution on humans and the natural world would also be valuable.

In return, you will gain experience of operating as a non-executive board member, learn about charity operations and have the opportunity to use your professional expertise to support our efforts to protect human health and the environment.

As a member of the Board of Trustees, you will have specific statutory duties, such as ensuring that CHEM Trust complies with charity law and other relevant legislation and that we use our resources responsibly to achieve our aims. You will also contribute to the Board’s role in providing strategic direction to the organisation. CHEM Trust will provide appropriate training opportunities to support you in your role.

You will be expected to commit a minimum of 3 days per year to your role in addition to preparation and reading time. We typically hold three board meetings per year (either on zoom or in London). In addition you will also have the opportunity to contribute to sub-committee meetings. Although it is a voluntary role, we do provide reasonable expenses, such as travel to meetings.

CHEM Trust is committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board.  We are particularly looking for candidates who can contribute greater diversity of representation and thinking to our Board.
