Job description

Main purpose of position

The purpose of this role is to support the Community and Special Events team on day to day administration, which include (but not limited to) dealing with enquiries, supporting fundraisers and assisting with larger projects within the team. This role requires an individual who is confident, articulate, well organised and with a keen eye for detail - someone who enjoys a challenge and has a methodical approach to their work. The role would ideally suit someone at the beginning of their career who is interested in fundraising, particularly within the area of Community Fundraising and Special Events.

Children with Cancer UK

Established in 1987, by our Chairman Eddie O’Gorman, following his youngest son Paul O’Gorman passing away from Acute Lymphoid Leukaemia, ALL, Children with Cancer UK has gone on to become a leading force in paediatric oncology.

In the last 32 years we have raised a staggering £260m in the fight against childhood cancer. Over the years, working with the scientific community, we have made significant breakthroughs in the treatment of ALL, and have contributed to raising survival rates from 63% to 84%. Alongside this we have also invested in patient family accommodation and grants to families, in addition to supporting family days out and welfare programmes throughout the UK, helping children and their families to maintain as normal a life as possible during their treatment.

We are moving into a new phase of growth and are investing in our teams to expand our reach, grow our awareness and deliver greater income to ensure we can continue our fight against childhood cancer. Our leading pillar of work continues to be research into the cause, treatment and cure of this cruel disease, and we will not stop until every child survives.


Key priorities and relationships

Community and Special Events

  1. To work closely with Line Manager and Community and Special Events Coordinators to deliver key campaigns, partnerships and special events.
  2. To be the first point of contact for all incoming enquiries from current supports as well as prospective supporters.   
  3. To ensure all supporters have all the support and materials requested.
  4. To project manage small campaigns and events, with support of line manager.
  5. Recruit and support new supporters to maximise their fundraising potential.
  6. To assist with the organisation of the event days experience and attend as required.
  7. Build relationships with existing and new fundraisers, providing fundraising materials, encouragement and support.
  8. To log and monitor prizes for the team; to undertake some cold mailing and cold calling for specific product / prize donations or supporter acquisition.
  9. To work collaboratively cross departmentally.



  1. To ensure all mailings are despatched effectively on a daily basis.
  2. Logging all supporter information accurately on Raiser’s Edge in line with current processes.
  3. To manage fundraising activities on Raiser’s Edge.
  4. To ensure that data relating to the Community and Special Events team is kept up-to-date and accessible to other members of the team.
  5. To deal promptly with enquiries, over the telephone, via email and in writing.
  6. To assist in the monitoring of stock and materials and ensuring adequate stocks are always held and available.
  7. Assist in keeping up-to-date income expenditure records where required and assist with creation of monthly money reports.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Any other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.
  2. The post requires an amount of evening and weekend work and the post holder is expected to attend events as and when required – throughout the UK or abroad.  The charity operates a time off in lieu system to make this time up which your line manager will need to approve.

  • Experience of dealing with charity supporters
  • Experience of working on social media channels
  • An ability to work with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external, including fundraisers, committee members and wider team members
