Job description

We are looking for a Communications Lead to take on an interim role supporting our Communications team, primarily working on creating and moderating web and social media content.

Our mission: we do whatever it takes to identify, close and prevent gaps in services and protections for refugees and displaced people globally. 

This is what we do

Choose Love was founded by a group of friends who wanted to collect donations for refugees in Calais. Six years later, we now support over 150 groups projects across 15 countries. We are creative, energetic and have huge ambitions.  

We raise money in support of over 150 groups providing vital aid and services to refugees and displaced people around the world - doing whatever it takes to identify, close and prevent gaps in services and protections. 

About the role

You will support with:

Social media

  • Create on-brand compelling content for facebook, Instagram, twitter on a daily basis. Copy-writing skills are a must; design and video editing skills highly desirable.

  • Social listening to ensure Help Refugees is abreast of current issues and debate.

  • Reply to comments and questions on Help Refugees’ social media swiftly, effectively and in organisational tone of voice.

  • Work with Help Refugees colleagues in field teams to source content about our work on the ground.

  • Support the Communications team on planning and delivery of exciting content around key moments.


  • Help keep Help Refugees and Choose Love websites up to date

  • Potential support to new website project.

Supporting fundraising

  • Support facebook birthday fundraisers

  • Support individual and community fundraisers on our website

  • Support online fundraising, including supporter emails and social media fundraising appeals.

Other responsibilities as necessary

  • Support on internal collating and storing of photography, video and stories.

  • Support media on Help Refugees’ work and the refugee crisis.

  • Other ad hoc duties as required.

Essential requirements

  • Excellent writing and graphic design skills

  • Working experience of Wordpress and Adobe editing tools

  • Social media enthusiast with in-depth familiarity with instagram/ instagram stories, facebook and twitter - especially instagram.

  • Passion for justice, human rights and especially refugee rights.


Ideally you will bring at least one of these to our work:

  • Lived experience of displacement or migration.

  • Track record of using social media platforms to raise awareness, organise and/ or fundraise.

  • Design skills using tools such as in-design or photoshop; ability to create beautiful and impactful visual content.

  • Basic video editing skills.

  • Experience of Hootsuite or similar

  • Experience working in the field of humanitarian aid, refugees or migration.


  • The role will report to the Director of Communications

  • This is a six-month role, starting as soon as possible, with a view to extend.

  • Salary will be in line with other NGOs.

*Regional candidates will be considered but there will be a requirement to work from the office 3 days per week.
