About us

This role is a part of the Global MEL Team within the Programme Quality and Operations Division in Christian Aid, enhancing organisational capacity in MEL and reporting, and providing particular support to programme teams involved in implementing projects and programmes across advocacy, humanitarian and development, The role will also work closely with the Global Strategy and Change Department and the Corporate Services Department's ICT Team, collaborating closely with the Head of Data Strategy and Transformation to deliver on a One CA approach to data management and strengthen our organisational digital capacity.

About the role

This role plays a key part in delivering Christian Aid's data strategy, ensuring that CA has access to quality data which can be used to articulate our impact in a robust and compelling way to all our stakeholders, and for evidence based decision-making at programme level for improved results. As a member of the Global MEL Team in the Programme Quality and Operations Division (PQOD in the International Department), the role will complement the work of divisional colleagues as well as colleagues in the Global Strategy and Change Department and the ICT Team in the Corporate Services Department, building a coherent overall approach on how data is used in the organisation for improving programme quality, performance management, decision-making, accountability and communications. The focus of the job will be on providing support to country teams to set up and use M&E databases and IT apps for M&E and data analysis, training programme and partner staff on data quality skills and competencies, supporting the production of high quality data for annual planning and reporting, and for corporate performance management processes.

About you

In order to fulfil this role you will bring a passion for data and how it can be used, bringing extensive experience in data analysis and visualisation (e.g. using Excel and Power BI), You will be able to identify innovative solutions and implement new ways of working. You will be a strategic thinker who can make the link between management and programming, identifying how the organisation can make the best use of its resources to produce high quality data for internal and external stakeholders.

Competency questions

As part of your application you will be asked to demonstrate your suitability by giving answers to the following TWO questions:

1) Please describe a situation in which you were tasked with building and managing a database to enable collection and analysis of data about project participants. What approach did you take, what decisions did you have to make, what data did you collect about the project participants? How did you ensure responsible data management? What were your main challenges? (400 words max.)

2) Please describe a situation where you were asked to prepare data for organisational performance management. Describe the management brief, the data source, the digital tools you used to analyse it, the means you used to visualise the data, and how you presented the information to decision-makers/managers. (400 words max.)
